Keep the stripes? Or toss em?

Here's my situation: I trained for nearly two years at a gym in Amarillo, Tx, then I moved to Denton, Tx to go to school. I took about six months off, then found a gym in Denton and started training again. My couch there, in Denton, told me within the first month of my training that I would be the next person to be promoted to blue belt. It never happened. Two years later, I had worked my way up to four stripes on my white belt.

I'm not going to complain or anything, but the truth is, half the blues in the gym couldn't tap me, and I traded taps with the others.

I then quit for four years. Now, I've moved again to Raleigh, North Carolina. And once more, I'm at a new gym. So, should I scrap my four stripes and put in another 1 or 2 years to hit blue, or not?

I'm only concerned that I might some how be sandbagging by starting from scratch.

Ugh, who cares. <----that is what I'm thinking.

Personally, If the stripes fall off, I don't worry about them going back on. I definitely wouldn't take them off.

One way or another you are not getting promoted until the new guy trusts you.

couches are liars. only futons tell the truth and then only with they are unfolded. a folded futon = trust no one.

But, yeah, that couch straight up did lie to me! I was putting in work every week, straight dumping buckets of sweet on their mats. No dice.

what calibur said.

he knows where you are at and will bump you when it's time to bump you. just show up and train.

I don't think the stripes will get you anything faster. Leave them on. You earned them.

I like to take the stripes off my belt, put on a blue condom and stripe it with my belt stripes before sleeping with a 10.5 female...

Luckily I've only gotten one stripe before or else I'd run out of room.

I did't know Jay was shore for John.

:icon_lol:

And the reason I can't spell tonight is that I'm still wobbly from training.

Man, I've been there like a week, first thing I thought was, "Damn this dude runs a serious warm up!"

I assume you train there, too?

I would leave the stripes on there - it's your rank in BJJ.

You are someone who has spent a good amount of time on the mats and you are not a complete beginner, the stripes signify that.

It makes sense to leave them on. I did out grow my belt though, so I'm rolling with a fresh belt with no stripes. In a way, I like the idea of starting over. It keeps me level, not worried about the blue. But, it's kind of disingenuous, or like sandbagging. I don't want first month white belts to see me in the gym and then roll with me and think they aren't any good.

No, I train at Pendergrass but I cross-train at GR a lot on Fridays and Sundays. I train with Jelen and Bump a lot.

Nice, I'll eventually catch you then. Were you the one that caught Bumpkin in that toe hold?

Keep them.
If I found out that some new students took his stripes off, I just put them back right away.
