For anyone who might be interested, Kauai Kimonos is currently having a pre-sale for some limited edition gis. They are offering their original design, the Coco Brown, and re-releasing a newer color that sold out quick last month, their Navy Blue gi.

Here's a link to both the pre-sales:

They said there are 100 gis available, so I think that's the first 100 orders only.

The brown is very pretty, but I won't spend more than $120 on a gi that light

just looks way to light to be functional...i could be wrong, but my 420 ripstop looks entirely different.

"Navy Blue Balls Gi"... I have a feeling it's gonna be a big disappointment. ;)

They're very solid gis. The owner of Kauai let me try them both on when he visited the midwest over the summer.

Awesome gis.

From everything I've read they are nothing but quality, everything is constructed and stitched in the best manner, and they were ranked #3 in aesopian's rankings so people are happy with them. I do agree, however, that $165 is a little high for a 100% ripstop gi, but I've wanted one for a while so I picked up a navy.

My main concern is if I have any issues with it, they are notorious for being non-existent when trying to get in contact with them, be it by email or facebook.

that brown gi looks really nice, tempted to buy one to see if kauai kimonos are that good like everyone says.

limited editions you say? LMAO!!

also a whitebelt at our gym bought his 1st gi. it was brown & it looked shitty. whatever floats your boat.

They literally only made a hand full in Dec, they said it was a feeler.

Let's say every single one of the 100 pre-orders is for a navy, even taking the last "batch" into account, there would still be about 110 of them. Even at a worst case, that's still pretty limited. In all actuality, there's well below 100 made.

weird. one would think that navy isn't all that rare anymore.

I've noticed that navy isn't used so much as a "regular gi" color anymore, it seems to be used more and more for special editions. The only companies I can think of that regularly have a navy gi as an option is Keiko and Tatami, but there are more and more companies making navy gis in general.

Kauai only has white, blue and black regularly available.

I just think it's cool how they did the line up. I am 5'9" 155, so if it had just been numbers and not the model I would've thought I was an a2

Their sizing is a little weird. They make everything look 1 size larger. Guess we'll see when my A2 comes in if it needs to tailored.
Their sizing is pretty accurate in terms of real world sizing.

Like Ice 9 Cobra said, I'd be A2 on paper, but in terms how fit and style, an A1 would be more suitable.

I like this approach to showing the sizing of a particular maker. I also like when manufacturers have Long and Heavy in between sizes. Really helps narrow down the perfect fit.

I wonder, if I emailed them, would they respond?
The two previous times I emailed them (wanting to place an order) they never got around to responding.
Too bad, I've heard good things about everything BUT Customer Service.
