looks like kasich is emerging as the establishment alternative to trump and cruz

It was Cruz in Iowa, and now Kasich in NH. Trump can come in second in all state primaries, and he'd still get the nomination due to first places being different establishment candidates each time.

The establishment has to put their money behind someone and that won't be Cruz or Trump.

Before the Primaries that seemed to be Bush with the possibility of Rubio stealing the spot. A good showing by Kasich could provide with some much needed cash and momentum.

Nah

It's same as last time for the Republicans.
Romney was the early leader, but most of the other candidates rose as an "alternative choice" for a few weeks, until the increased scrutiny revealed them to be a joke. In the end it was Romney.

This time Trump is the early leader. He's more volatile and has the whole Republican establishment plotting against him, so he could wipe out, but probably it will be the same again. Lots of "flavors of the month", followed by the inevitable.
