Karate Distance

This is what I was taught about fighting taller opponents (this is boxing so obviously it might not relate completely): Either be all the way in, or all the way out. Being really far out is actually a very good tactic as it means the long fighter will have to come in and then you can intercept them as they are coming in to try and get to the range they're comfortable at. Obviously the other strategy is get inside and clinch and work your dirty boxing and inside game.
 
Wonderboy seems more diverse, more active and more accurate than Machida. Plus, he's not the smallest man in his division, unlike Lyoto, so his TDD can hold up much better.

Not saying he is not effective or a good fighter. But it is not some unsolvable mystery that the striking world has never seen before. Even certain boxers use a similar jab and counter, movement oriented style. Flashy people with this style always look unstoppable...until they get stopped, then suddenly their "unsolvable" riddle vanishes and they are just another fighter.
