"According to Colorado State Boxing Commission Director Josef Mason, Gaethje’s suspension was due to the fighter jumping on the cage and Gaethje was previous warned about this prior to the event in written correspondence."

"Gaethje retained his WSOF lightweight crown by stopping Foster via leg kicks 1:43 into the opening round of their clash at the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, Colo. Gaethje then punctuated his triumph with a backflip off the cage. According to the TheMMAReport.com, Gaethje was warned by the Colorado commission not to execute his trademark celebration prior to the event."

Nope. Did his trademark moonsault off the cage after the fight was stopped, nobody was anywhere close to it, and he landed fine

UPDATE:

Looks like it's essentially been downgraded to a warning.

Alright, time for the UFC to sign Gaethje already!

It'll blow over in a week, nothing but a slap on the wrist.

Seems like a pretty ridiculous reason to issue a suspension. I don't see how it is "unsportsmanlike." He's just celebrating his victory, and not doing it at the expense of his opponent. I feel like there might be a good case to have this overturned, but might not happen with the absurd freedom AC's seem to have to just do whatever they want.

It's definitely a strange one, probably some old due in the commission who just "hates those kids and their back flips!"

Wouldn't want someone to do something dangerous at a fucking cagefighting event.

Derp.

Didn't see the fight, but was this during the fight? Did Gaethje moonsault off the top of the cage and crush Brian Foster's leg?

That would have been much more epic than what actually happened. He just won the fight, and did a celebration flip off the cage.

I agree. I think a very short suspension may be justified if the reasoning behind it was for the safety of the other people in the decagon. I don't really see how it's "unsportsmanlike." He'll be back soon enough though I'm sure.

lol i read unsportsmanlike conduct and was thinking to myself he may have assaulted someone or something, but flipping off a cage? lmao

At first, I thought it would have been about the throat-cut gesture, not his badass back-flip of IDGAF

Fuck Colorado for banning the uncrowned GOAT

Edit: Just read he has 2 fights left on his WSOF contract, and then he's testing free-agency, WHOO!

I was expecting to enter the thread and see something like this:

what the hell is this? Who asked Colorado to police celebrations?

My initial thoughts were how ridiculous this is. However, thinking more about it...for whatever reason the AC did not want him to do his trademark celebration. Perhaps they were concerned about his safety? who knows, but the reason is irrelevant. He was in fact warned not to do it. He chose to ignore the warning. The AC MUST suspend him for breaking the rule otherwise they don't stand for shit. Other fighters will see that and choose to walk all over them.

So...yea it was silly to request he not do that. He is a cage fighter after all, and an adult, he should be able to choose to do a celebratory back flip...BUT they did prewarn him...he didnt have to go against that.

When I read the article title I was like really? He doesn't seem like the type to do something unsportsmanlike, then I was like.. oh... stupid. He was excited, forgot he wasn't suppose to, no one was harmed.

These "commissions" get more ridiculous by the week. If someone wants to blow their knees out back flipping that's on themselves. Put someone in a position of power and they will abuse it. It's nature

Holy shit. They can go consume cocks.

This is literally so egregiously stupid I'm going to write them an e-mail. I'll probably use a more appropriate vernacular than 'consume cocks', but it's my initial reaction.
