The last two high mileage guys for Topuria were way better than anyone else in the division though, and one was the champ. There's not really much Topuria could have done about that.

Would have been nice to see him fight someone like Lopes or Mosvar though. Feels like the last time he fought someone who didn't have some miles on him it was Ryan Hall lol, and that wasn't much of a fight for him.

I was thinking along these lines. If illia has a quick turnaround he can fight gaethje for the belt while the other chosen 4 battle it out for nr 1 contendership.

Gaethje doesnt have alot of time left in the sport, and the fight would be non stop action.

I wouldn't complain as much about it in that scenario, or if they let him be backup for the next titleshot and he steps in due to injury.

I just wish there was an end to these 1 fight winstreak titleshots, that everyone in the top 10 become aware that winstreaks and activity are needed.

He got face planted 2 fights ago and then beat a guy he already beat who was coming off an injury. He tried to act like the Holloway fight was just an exhibition and didn’t count. But it does, it happened in your division and everybody saw it. You’re gonna need to do more to sell yourself as #1 contender after that.

Cannot imagine Justin taking that fight. If the UFC comes to him and says "you gotta win one more then you're next up" maybe Gaethje dials it back and agrees. But not vs Arman who's obviously the toughest fight out there. Gaethje would way more likely agree to fight Paddy.

I like Paddy vs Gaethje under the circumstance that Arman gets Olivera/Ilia. But it seems they want Arma to fight one more as well.

I don't think Gaethje should get it now.

Bryce Mitchell hadn't taken a ton of damage, he's just not very good and has definitely taken damage since.

Evloev would have been good, Arman would be the most interesting fight for him at LW, but instead we're getting Charles and then probably Gaethje. Both are fun fights, they just aren't the biggest challenges and will make 5 fights in a row against guys who are older and can't or don't take many people down. The only person Charles has taken down in 5 years was Chandler.

I don't think we'll get Garthje once Top is champ. I don't think the UFC will cave in to Justin's demands. If Arman wins a fight soon I think he'll be out of the UFC's bad books and probably fight Topuria next. I hope that's what happens anyway.

In Gaethje's time in the UFC - he's had an interim title shot, and two title fights vs Khabib and Oliveira - one of which was earned off a 1 fight win streak.

How tf is this guy talking like he's so hard done by in the UFC. He should see what Merab and Evloev had/have to do to get a title shot.

He's so entitled for someone who just got slept by a FW not long ago. He needs to fight again and wait his turn. Paddy and Arman are ahead of him right now.

but he was already at a title shot when he lost that fight he bounced back and fought fiziev. he's just as deserving as charles seeing as charles lost to armen, and only beat chandler since. he's just as deserving as charles. his win over porier should have been enough to get his title shot.

Illa stiffens him, BTW. But Poirer getting a shot at makachev was a crime against gaethje after his epic BMF title win KO

I really hope they don't do this fight, its will 2 years before Ilia fights another hungry LW if they let him fight Justin after Charles. That is bullshit if paddy or Arman are not in the conversation if Ilia beats Olivera

He deserved it a while back, but they gave it to Oliviera instead and Oliviera shit the bed, and it was given to Volkanovski. It should’ve been Gaethje but the matchmakers thought otherwise, Gaethje should’ve stayed in shape at the time so he could’ve been the late replacement. He needs another win imo.

I'm glad he changed his tune. He got ktfo by Max and is undeserving of a title shot. Arman and BMF winner are. Now he's trying to take a title shot from the BMF winner, but why should he stand in the way of their title shot or have to face him? He fought for the BMF title and got ktfo why should either man fight him before fighting for UFC gold?!

He should be fighting whoever is available or the loser of the BMF fight. Fighting the loser of the BMF fight is good for him as they will be softened up mentally and physically. If he looks good there then he has a strong case.
