I have never trained pankration a day in my life, how do I train stand up to fight pankration?
well what have you trained in?
Wrestled for 4 years, BJJ for a good amount of time, and kickboxing/thai boxing for around 4 months
Forget striking and just go for take downs/ subs.
You will prob get hurt standing up by someone with better experience so dont play his game. Correct me if im wrong but Pankration doesnt allow head strikes??
indeed, no head strikes. a guy at my gym who has had a few matches said that if you don't know how to defend leg kicks, you're in for a rude awakening. other than that, he said it basically turns into a grappling match.
So I guess what im gunna do is just train a lot and work on checking leg kicks and trying to catch a leg and use my wrestling and BJJ and put him on the mat and submit him. awsome guys thanks a lot
That strategy sounds like your best bet. Try to develop several tactics that you can use to achieve those ends and you should be ok.
Yeah just stick to your grappling, maybe use a few strikes or kicks to close the gap then submitt them :icon_twis
