just rewatched UFC 1. Average sherbro could make it to quarter-finals

I guess I'm below average for a shercat then..

I can safely assume I would have gotten my teeth kicked out.

The average Sherbro is Fred fucking Ettish and would be prison raped.

That old guy is Ron van Clief. He was 51 they invited to ufc 4 out of respect. Think he still holds the record for oldest UFC fighter.
I couldn't think of his name, but I'm very familiar, I was just pointing out that he would have nothing to do with UFC 1.
I'm unhealthily obsessed with UFC 1 through 6, saw them as a kid, then lost track until UFC 86. Those early shows still stand up, IMO. It does feel more different then watching any other sport 20 years ago because it's changed so much.
I think my point was that the TS was being dismissive of those early shows, but doesn't acknowledge that "MMA" wasn't a style yet. Tank Abbott at UFC 6 is a monster, but even he has much to learn about MMA. When a fighter makes an appearance now we expect him/her to be able to fight from anywhere, hey it's the name of the game now. But at UFC 1, Teila Tuli comes in as a sumo wrestler. It seems silly now, but at the time Gordeau was fighting a sumo wrestler!! That "holy crap" moment should be more appreciated, not less.
Last thing, Ron at 54 had the best attitude. He came in as a traditional stand up martial artist, and he wasn't going in to win, he went to make sure the fights were real, to make sure that this wasn't some other weird WWE gimmick and was excited to lose a real fight. He questioned the martial artists hiding behind their dojo with their black belt and said "why aren't YOU doing this?!" and "this is how you prove your art works!"

I'm always surprised that so many people think there were no rounds, or no real rule-set for UFC 1.

They changed it so quickly, is why I think most forget. Correct me if I'm wrong, but UFC 2 already got rid of the "rounds" thing

Average Sherbro was 10 years removed... From being born!

I believe you're correct because no fight in UFC went beyond the 5 minute mark anyway. Also it looked like the referee didn't know what rules were supposed to be enforced either... first fight with the Samoan and he goes down and the ref intervenes immediately.

Big John does UFC 2, so it doesn't long for him to bring some actual ref presence in there, but the UFC 1 red is so so terrible. He clearly has no idea what he is watching when Royce taps Shamrock and he expects the two to keep fighting. He was probably shook from that early intervening that you mentioned, but god damn, learn the rules (if you're a ref!!)

Gary G? No thank you. Those guys would beat the hell out of average Sherbro's. They would also go to prison. Even back then beating up 12 year olds was frowned upon.

You obviously did NOT watch UFC 2, because John Mcarthy let Orlando Weit practically MURDER Robert Lucarelli in their fight...

As an average sherbro I assure you that all the guys from UFC 1 who are still alive (mostly in their 50s) would kick my ass.

Of course

We are all 6'5 300lbs 10% bodyfat millionaires
no, no, no were all keyboard 5 foot nothing Virgin dweeb warriors who jerk off only to porn star 10's and will never touch and/or satisfy a women....ever

The fuck?? I am 6 ft and 230 lb and generally a pretty fearsome man. I have boxing and a slight touch of karate and Judo. No fucking way I would have won a fight in UFC 1 without a miracle.
