Been training 8 months now and just got my blue belt from Rener Gracie via gracieuniversity.com! Now I know right away everyone bashes this program because they think its easy and anyone can do it without drilling or working on any sort of technique at all! I trained 4 months at a local bjj school but had to stop training there when work changed me to the night shift and my local school has no a.m classes.

Now I could of stopped training all together but I found gracieuniversity.com and gave it a shot! At first I was very skeptical but then was blown away with the way the training program and testing was organized by the gracie academy! I spent over 200 hours combined the last 4 months going through the very detailed courses and drilling the techniques to the "T" with my training partner! I've never seen a program this detailed with an absolute amazing curriculum on technique and applications of the moves!

I learned more the last 4 months then the first 4 months at the school! At a school it's hard to get a breakdown like you do on gracieuniversity.com because of the class sizes and everything just seems out of order at the school setting! Also by repeating/refreshing courses at gracieuniversity you make sure the technique becomes second nature and you don't forget it! Now Rener didn't just give me my blue belt from learning all 36 lessons I had to submit a non stop test video that covered the following drills!

Blue Belt Qualification Drill 1: Mount Techniques ( Watch Demo) (Print Chart)
Blue Belt Qualification Drill 2: Guard Techniques ( Watch Demo) (Print Chart)
Blue Belt Qualification Drill 3: Side Mount Techniques ( Watch Demo) (Print Chart)
Blue Belt Qualification Drill 4: Standing Techniques ( Watch Demo) (Print Chart)
Blue Belt Qualification Drill 5: Freestyle Fight Simulation ( Watch Demo) (Print Instructions)

I believe you have to be registered to view following link that goes over testing qualifications!

Now Rener personally critiqued my test and technique from my live drills that included a live fight simulation at the end to show I could apply all 36 techniques in a real setting and not just memorize them and not know when to use them I chose my 6'5 300 pound ex college football friend to show I could apply all the techniques to a significantly larger opponent!

I am only 6' 202 pounds! Rener was impressed by my video and scored me 93 out of a 100 for a few technical errors in standing and side mount techniques part of my video!

All and all gracieuniversity.com has been a great bjj learning expierence and I reccomend it to people like me who have a crazy work schedule and can't make it to the local school and for people who don't have a school in their area they live in! Just thought I would share my experience I have had with the program for those of you curious about the program!

Above link works for everybody.

If you can, change the title to "Got my blue belt from Gracieuniversity.com"

That will guarantee a lively discussion. Props for posting and well, congrats.

I am gonna withhold judgement, as I still havent' made up my mind about the programm.

Here is the relevant passagage from their website that everyone should read I suppose.

The Belt Difference
The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy belt system is distinct from that of sport-oriented schools. Although the belt colors are the same, the belt qualification requirements are very different. Sport-oriented schools promote students based on their mastery of techniques that will lead to victory in a tournament setting. In most cases, sport belt holders are very comfortable in sport jiu-jitsu matches and controlled sparring sessions. However, when confronted by a larger and more athletic opponent who doesn

you are aware your blue belt is still a white belt elsewhere, right?

I think its retarded that they actually do this online crap

"Sweet infomercial Rener, almost looks like a legit post."

hi! billy mays here! do you love bjj but can never find the time to train?!

i dont think online belts are ever going to be respected, hell even the belts awarded by Royce Gracie at seminars is a bit odd i think, im sure some deserve it, but I think that a belt should be awarded by your instructor... in real life.

Only your instructor who sees you roll every day will know when you are ready, if your techniques are being applied right or now.

I dont know about all this to be honest.

in this case i hope its not ALL BOUT THE BENJAMINS!

Yes I told my bjj blackbelt instructor at the local gym about it when I started and he reviewed the program and was very impressed with how they teach the fundamentals and said he would rather have me doing the program online then nothing at all! Because he promotes based on sports jiu jitsu, attendence, self defense and technique he said he would not recognize my belt if I achieved one through the gracieuniversity.com program!

Last week though when I showed him the testing criteria and the demo videos he was blown away and is really considering new blue belts to pass the test online before he gives them a blue belt in addition to sports jiu jitsu ability because he believes it demonstates the fundamentals of bjj technique and likes how the student demonstrates all techniques from mount, guard, side mount, standing, and then do the simulation drill!

Now when I do go back I will be a white and will have to prove myself before he awards me a blue under his school because of the above requirements that he demands!

Now I am good friends with a student from the school who just received his purple belt and also competes in no gi grappling, and MMA! I got stomped by him the first day 8 months ago when I went to the local school but have been rolling with him 5-7 times a month and he is blown away by my progress and supports the program online! He hated on me at first but sees my love for the sport and dedication and see's that the program works first hand he has done several lessons with me and is impressed with how detailed they are with the techniques and instruction by Rener and Ryron! I think they are excellent instructors myself and break down everything very well! I want to compete in jiu-jitsu tourneys once my work schedule gets less crazy and I'm not working weekends!

I don't really know what to think about this online program. I find it odd that they award belts to people who aren't training at their school and who they have personally never instructed.

I can't tell if this is fake or not but if it isn't then grats on your blue belt. I could see Rener posting this from "The Gracie Compound" eating his corn soup and grilled cheese sandwich lol.

So at the school you attend now your instructor does not teach self defense or have you guys go free style (NO GI) with gloves on strike each other while you spar and I am not talking about MMA either.....just curious thats all

Who was this black belt that you are speaking about?
