If we could travel back in time to year 1400 for example and gave scientists today's model of smartphone, how long will take them to recreate it? It not necessarily have to be phone could be any other tech, perhaps car even.

I have no clue to be fair.

On the other hand if were given today computer from year 2500. How long it would take us to recreate it?

They wouldn't have even the basics needed to begin comprehending it.

It's like asking someone to do field equations who's never added numbers.

Different question. If said smartphone was left there and being studied all the time over the years, would that at least speed up process of creating it for example instead of 2005, lets say 1960 or something like that?

Think of what they'd need in terms of fundamental concepts in order to reverse engineer a phone.

"So you've harnessed the power of lightning and put it into this small "plastic" device..."

Even reverse engineering the battery would be a couple of hundred years of development.

Not solely because of basic concepts but also manufacturing.

It's a good question, I'm gonna say the answer is maybe a little?

Interesting question. They probably would be baffled by it.

Would Einstein provide any breakthrough to at least shave off couple years of development?

More than likely if it was found it would be destroyed.. 1400 they were still in Alchemy stages of science(satanism) things probably wouldn't be any different, we will never know.

    Nobody knows..

Whole concepts of culture and tradition were much different than anything we know now..

It depends on the technology. A smartphone doesn't really demonstrate the physics it uses an easily observable way. Before you could even begin to build a smartphone, you need a solid grasp of EnM and quantum mechanics - neither of which is going to be deduced by looking at a smartphone.

That's just the most basic fundamental principals to even begin trying to design a smartphone. Actually building one? Most people don't really realize how complex semiconductor manufacturing is - mass production of the modern computer chip is one of humanities greatest accomplishments. Check out some of the machines used to build chips - they're insanely complicated and require a a deep understanding of multiple fields of engineering, physics, and chemistry to design and build.

Misleading thread title. I came in expecting that you've been cruising roadside rest areas and mall bathrooms.

    To be fair,

We haven't even been able to recreate the technology that aliens have left us decades ago with the technology we have now...

Probably not. His contributions to science were of a very different nature.

Exactly. Organized religion would have called it teh Debbil's Work and stoned/burned the scientists.

    goddam papists...
