This is probably one of the most ridiculous cases of abuse of power I've read about regarding the police. The cops pulled him over, ripped apart his car, were unable to find any drugs, beat the shit out of him, then locked him in a closet for 4 days without food, water, or a toilet.

The two policemen took Black back to the East Cleveland Police Headquarters and locked him in a storage closet with no food or water. Black said he urinated and defecated in lockers during his stay.

On his second day in the closet, an officer allowed Black to use his cellphone to call his girlfriend.

But when the girlfriend came to the police department and asked to see him, she was told he was "under investigation" and "you can't see people that are under investigation."

It gets even crazier
When asked to produce evidence from the traffic stop in the discovery phase of the trial, the city of East Cleveland told a judge overseeing Black's civil suit that they did not have dash cam video or police reports from the incident, DiCello said.

In lieu of a mugshot, which would have shown Black's bloodied face, the police department fabricated an arrest report using the picture on his drivers license, according to DiCello.

I'm glad this guy is going to get paid, but how are these cops not in jail?

These cops are scum assuming this man did not deserve that or worse. You know what I speak of. There are acts you could commit which should get you more than a beating and being locked up.

These guys have to go to prison for that. That's fucking insane.

This is what Bernie was talking about. A corrupt justice system and corrupt police force. Law enforcement needs civilian oversight.

I say this as someone who isn't a Bernie fan btw

A few bad apples mrite?

A few bad apples mrite?

Yes. Given that there are something like 1,250,000 cops in the US and that the media absolutely adores reporting on police wrong-doing, it is absolutely remarkable that there are so few incidents reported

Fair enough, but in this case we have the entire police department working together to cover up a crime. Not a few bad apples, at least in East Cleveland.

That is ridiculous to give that much money for that shit.

This is set up to be abused. If I was a cop I would go in with some scrub and lock him up and shit and then split the money. Tax payers get stuck with the bill.

These ridiculous settlements need to stop. Sorry, being locked in a room for 4 days does not mean you get more than most in a lifetime. Ridiculous.

You should get up to 4x the wages you would have earned for time locked up. Bullshit.

That's a lot of money.

But the cops should be in jail.

Jail for the cops?? C'mon. Maybe they just forgot about the guy? Haven't any of you forgot about anything before?

Maybe if the police learned to behave it wouldnt be a problem.

And im pretty sure that what you want to do constitutes fraud, and it would certainly stop if one of the parties went to jail.

It wasnt just 4 days in the joint, it was 4 days with no water, you can die from that.

They just wanted to go home to their families.

What does this have to do with ludicrous settlements? It is like giving a jay walker 20 years in prison. Don't jaywalk.
Fucking ridiculous punishment system.

If i kidnap someone for 4 days and endanger his life im getting life in prison. It was not someone illegaly detained it was someone put in life threatening conditions and forced to shit and pee on himself.

If you give them a slap on the wrist, they will do so again, rest assured that 22 million suit is going to be felt in that small town.
