Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Talks to Star in JUMANJI Remake Sequel

Sony is getting closer to rebooting a Robin Williams classic with two of the busiest actors in town. Sources tell Variety Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in early talks to star in Sony’s Jumanji, a new adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1981 adventure book.

Schedules are still being worked out, as both Johnson and Hart have heavy production loads ahead, but insiders say things are moving toward a deal.

Johnson has an opening this fall with his New Line pic Rampage possibly shifting to 2017. The plan would be to shoot Jumanji before the third season of his HBO series Ballers. Johnson will also shoot Fast 8 this summer, reprising his role of Agent Hobbs.

Hart is expected to shoot The Intouchables remake for Weinstein this summer opposite Bryan Cranston, and according to sources, working out this part of the schedule could prove difficult.

The pair showed great chemistry after co-hosting the MTV Movie Awards, and with anticipation high for their upcoming New Line action comedy Central Intelligence, Sony sees this as the perfect opportunity to pair the two up again for a tentpole.

Jake Kasdan is on board to direct with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner writing the script. The pic set to bow on July 28, 2017. Principal photography is expected to start this August in Honolulu, HI.

Dwayne Johnson Confirmed to Star in Sony's JUMANJI Remake Sequel

Dwayne Johnson has officially joined the remake of Jumanji, he announced in an instagram post. "It's official. We'll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs: There's games you play for fun...then there's games that change your life. JUMANJI," Johnson said.

He said he loves the script that's being tweaked now, and it sounds like he's signing on to both produce and star in the film, as his Seven Bucks Productions team is working on the script rewrites. Matt Tolmach is also producing, with Jake Kasdan directing.

The Rock, who is currently shooting a Baywatch reboot, said that shooting on Jumanji will start this fall with Sony Pictures. "Promise to deliver something cool and special... and not screw the whole damn thing up," he finished.

Johnson was rumored to be joining Jumanji last weekend, alongside his pal actor and comedian Kevin Hart, though he didn't spill the beans on whether Hart's deal was done, as well. Jumanji is currently on Sony's calendar for July 28, 2017.

Dwayne Johnson Says JUMANJI Remake Sequel Will Honor Robin Williams

Dwayne Johnson wrote on Instagram: "And the #JUMANJI magic begins. Excellent meeting with our director Jake Kasdan, producer Matt Tolmach, and our @SevenBucksProd team to work on our new re-imagining of this amazing story.

I felt like in order to craft something cool we should begin where it all started. Award winning writer Chris Van Allsburg's source material of JUMANJI. Chris also wrote THE POLAR EXPRESS (later adapted by Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks) and has a very special & magical way of storytelling.

I'm feelin' good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and your entire fam can enjoy.

An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin' down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn't even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that's for another fun story down the road.

We got a great team assembled already over at our home base of SONY and now we build from here.

Here's another fun part... in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there's now FIVE. Been so damn cool to see all my actor buddies push their projects aside so hopefully they can come play in our world. Should have cool casting announcements this week. Will keep you posted."

Jack Black is set to star alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Sony’s Jumanji reboot, TheWrap has learned.
Jake Kasdan is directing the big-budget adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 book.

"In our reimagining of the story of Jumanji, Jack brings that rare balance of cool with funny and edge with childlike joy," wrote Dwayne Johnson on Instagram. Johnson also solidified Kevin Hart’s involvement, which was previously in question due to scheduling, saying that the "Jumanji Breakfast Club" is coming together.

"Two big roles left," Johnson revealed. "One bad ass girl. One semi-sorta bad ass dude. Who will they be... this is gonna be fun."

Production is expected to start in August in Hawaii, as Sony is slated to release Jumanji on July 28, 2017.

Wasn't there a report a few months back that Jack Black wanted to retire. I think he said one or two more movies and he's out.

Wait is the rock still slated to ruin Big Trouble In Little China?

Has he no shame?

Cool. Should fit nicely into the schedule with the One Hour Photo and Death to Smoochy reboots.

Coked out producer: hey Dwayne we want you to star in a remake of..

Dwayne no shame Johnson: say no more I'm in

That movie wasn't even a comedy.

Please no. I don't necessarily have a problem with remakes/reboots, but this is awful.

Yeah. Something about he's sick of playing the loveable loser.

What are the odds that this is any good? Like a 10% chance?

I'm convinced they just pick names out of a hat when it comes to deciding what movies to remake.
