I know this isn't a boxing forum but I'd just like to remind other sherbros to watch greatness in the making. Watch this great Cuban boxer win his gold medal and hopefully become the next Roy Jones Jr. in the pros.

I'm sure that plenty of MMA fans are starving for some real matrix style of fighting ever since Anderson Silva retired just like boxing fans are.

What's the most amazing about this guy is that he's a LHW who moves like a welterweight, there's so much fluidity in his movement and his judgement of range and distance is elite, not to mention that he has shown glimpses of out of this world reflexes.

He's clowning everybody with his hands down style.

Another true elite A-level athlete entering combat sports. Only 26 years old.

His next fight on the Olympics is on sunday.

I find the Cuban style so much more refined than the 'mexican' style of boxing. But I can see why people like the feet planted, chin tucked approach of the traditional mexicans

If I were Dana White I'd throw millions on him and personally bring him out of Cuba on a raft just to see him tool everybody with 6 months of TDD training. Imagine him versus Demian Maia if Maia can't take him down. He would be clowned worse than he was against Anderson.

This is the last man to beat Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd should fight a rematch with him for that 50th win and change his bum life.

Not for boxing. Which legit boxer today is younger than him other than him other than Canelo (only one year younger anyway)? Rigondeaux transitioned to pros when he was 29 and is doing just fine at 36 still being one of the most feared and avoided fighters.

Amazing to watch, but this style doesn't "age" well. It is predicated on athletcism and reflex - eventually, father time catches us all, and that split second he loses from his step will be the difference between a missed punch and a KO.

RJJ was the GOAT at this, but eventually hit a wall in his 30s. Bernard Hopkins style may not be exciting to look at, but it is what has made him so effective well into his twilight years.

Entering his late twenties and still hasn't turned pro? Better get a move on.

I agree, but his 3-4 year peak will be brilliant.

A lot of great amateurs entered boxing in their late 20s lately. Especially in Cuba the transition isn't that easy. He needs to basically defect the country. Winning a gold medal is a great promotion for a fighter and can get you the big fights pretty quick.

Rigondeaux and Lara are the best examples of Cuban amateurs who turned pro late and instantly schooled the pros. The Ukrainian guy in my avatar too.

olympics are amateurs...they have lots of teenagers who get medals. 26 is pretty old for an amateur who's clearly pro-material.
