Judo will cripple you

Judo can still be a life long sport, without crippling you. There is a 65 year old and a 71 year old at my judo club and they are still rolling around on the mat like anyone else.

It seems that most of the injuries that occur from judo tend to be from either poor technique or overworking yourself. Cause generlly the very idea behind judo is about training safely. Sure you might want to win in competitions, but sometimes its better to be thrown and lose without injury to either of you, than it is to not be thrown and go home crippled.

And skateboarding injuries.
Can be the most brutal....

I still ache at almost 40 years old, and stopped skating at 22.
Well I still skate once in a while, like once or twice per summer, but that's it, and nothing challenging.

I think it's a conscious decision whether or not one is going to be a competitive judo fighter. Judo fighters get hurt a lot, average rec judoka not so much.

Fwiw, I've found that S and C work, stretching and foam rolling regularly doesn't let me get injured too often. In my 3rd year of Judo and pretty focused towards the sport side.

Call that? Well because I thought at one time I was beat to hell and when I resumed with drive, it all went away. Now I am dying to compete for mma as I could do better in it than judo.:D Only because judo is a specialist sport compared. You say you are 30? Well if you are beat then it wasn't from judo and you should recog that many judoka fight into their 60's with injuries. Maybe even with the shit you got at 30. Some fight Pride after 30 years of total kill judo.:D

Judo is great for anybody, all the time.

So is Sal.

You're a fucking idiot, and you should keep your fat mouth shut about things outside your expertise. Do not tell people to keep doing something that injures them. Are you a medical professional? Are you willing to pay his medical bills if he gets injured doing Judo? The answer is "no", so shut the fuck up! You say he should keep doing Judo because you did it with injuries and turned out fine? Well, I know a guy who smokes a lot but still lived to be 91. Are you saying smoking is fine? Once again, shut the fuck up, you irresponsible piece of shit!

After years of dedication to judo it gave me a black belt (first dan) and unparalleled skills at taking anyone down.

It also gave me:
1) Osteoartheritis on all my fingers from GI gripping
2) Pinched nerve in my neck
3) Bad lower back from not wanting to fall on my back and lose by Ippon.
4) Destroyed cartilage in my knees because of some throwing techniques like uchimata

That sport is probably the most tough on the joints ever, and to be competing in it will add 60 years to your body. My brother retired from judo at 29. TWENTY NINE! He walks like yoda because of hip surgery. The nature of the sport is geared to demolish you like no other if you want to stay serious in Judo.

Its the rules high impact throw Ive broke dislocated both arms prolapsed disk broken toes other bones in my foot. To much to put down.

Judos a mugs game and I am a mug for still doing it hoping to replace it completely with wrestling and BJJ.

Peoole say oh no mma you'll get hurt. Judo you'll reck your health and have zero to show for it.

I am in my 30s got health problems of somone in their 50s. Don't be me with creaking knees damaged back and limp.

You have to shout louder if you want him to hear you all the way back in 2006, Tyrone.

Do BJJ or MMA or even boxing Muay Thai instead Judo isn't worth it.

Theirs no money in Judo only a few it works out for that are siccessful and lucky enough not to get seriously injured and be a champion internationally.

Do a sport that you'll get paid not some Olympic bullshit.

Don't be this guy

No

The great thing if your doing Judo and go to just about any grappling art you'll excell at if you've did competitive judo previously.

Look at BJJ Wrestling Sambo guys eith Judo background excel at.

Yes, it will! My knees are fucked up thanks to Judo. My left meniscus is in pieces lol I had multiple injuries on my knees, hands and fingers, I can't really feel my ring finger due to nerve damage. My finger joints are stiff and swollen. I'm not a kid anymore so my falls are starting to hurt more and more. It's frustrating.

I just want to throw it out there that Judo is an excellent crosstraining activity for sports that may involve a lot of falling like board sports and trick biking.

Judo saved my life and spine multiple times, and my marriage (a proper free fall prevented child injury).

Well, this is somewhat true. My dojo has a few old judokas. All black belts, some are 6th dan and up. If I were to guess I would say their average age is 70. Great judokas and always willing to help us but none of them actually do randori anymore. They are there more to share their knowledge and have fun.

mid 30s, second major injury, or when a BJJ gym opens up close to their house. whichever comes first

The more I hear about this the more I think my TMA teachers were correct. Martial arts for health, spirituality and self defense and don't trade your health for being a better fighter, don't hit each other in the head, don't condition your shins and bones to not feel pain etc etc.

My friend fought in Pride and now has CTE. Its very sad. He can easily kick my ass but I don't have CTE.
