Im trying to get rid of my islamic fundamentalist reputation. For some reason people think I am a religous zelot just because i believe in God. Anyway, yeah, the av of Salah ad din was the best.

I started judo when i was about 9 years old and continued on and off till now (30). Just started getting serious about it for the past 5 years. Got my black belt then started getting cripple.

I know people who have been doing it for 3 years in total and are limping and cant walk normally. The #1 problem with judo is osteoartheritis of joints.

I call bs on the injuries. Man, you just need some inspiration. Without it you will cripple. I am serious.

Get Sala had din back up there rather than....

Also was your black given or did you test?

Why would you say somethig like that? Dude, i almost quit judo because of osteoartheritis in my joints.

Ok...ill put Salah ad Din back.

I had to test. I dont think its possible to get black without testing. You have to do all the nagenokata techniques and randori. Then you get a judo 'passport' which allows you to accumulat points so you can eventually go for ni dan or san dan.

Call that? Well because I thought at one time I was beat to hell and when I resumed with drive, it all went away. Now I am dying to compete for mma as I could do better in it than judo.:D Only because judo is a specialist sport compared. You say you are 30? Well if you are beat then it wasn't from judo and you should recog that many judoka fight into their 60's with injuries. Maybe even with the shit you got at 30. Some fight Pride after 30 years of total kill judo.:D

Judo is great for anybody, all the time.

So is Sal.

My dislocated toe from J U D O, the gentle way.

Mother of God, is that your pinky toe? Must hurt like hell.

That is what happened to my fingers. So in Judo now i can only grab with the illigal pistol grip.

Yep, that's my pinky toe. We named it Yoshinky (after Yoshida) at my judo club. It hurt worse than the other injuries.

BTW, you're supposed to post the full sized pic of your avatar over at the thread I linked you too.

Oh, ok, sorry I just changed my avatar.

Are you originally Japanese? Just curious. I have a feeling.

Now you can do the Vulcan greeting with your leg man.:D

But seriously, would you rather live in a bubble and be safe and sound and not live at all. Although the injuries are painful and what not, I find them enjoyable. It is a good feeling to wake up all bruised and sh1t cause you know you did SOMETHING with your life!!!

So, denial works good for you then?

Hey man, I'm not ragging on you for your injuries. I've had a couple myself for the reasons stated. I wouldn't be proud to state my injuries however, because there is no reason you have to have them. Take care of yourself.

I've only torn my hamstring a couple of times, cracked my rib and tore my rib cartilage so far - although my fingers are pretty gnarly - my wedding ring no longer fits over the joint - and it was loose when I first wore it!.

Most other injuries are minor, like twisted ankles, strained forearm etc. I do have lower back/spinal problems but I had those before judo - so they dont count.

I've not had bleeding fingers for ages - but I have some nice callouses on the first joints of the fingers.

Hey - some people manage to get through OK when they are older - others seem to get the injuries.

It is very hard on the body. I guess only the tough survive. Those wimps who cant hack it - they go & do BJJ instead.:icon_lol:

I'm not proud of my injuries. They piss me off to no end. I'm out of Judo training for at least 6 weeks because of knee surgery. That does NOT make me happy.

Most common causes to injury are: overtraining, poor nutrition, overzealous behavior, suckiness, and stupidity.

I was serious about this being a statement of denial on your part. You think that if you: don't overtrain, eat right, have a lackluster training attitude, don't suck, and are intelligent, then you won't be injured in Judo.

Would you say the same of Bullriding? Or Hockey? Or Rugby? Or...skydiving? It's looking at the prospect of being injured in contact sports (or risky endevours) as only possible if someone does something WRONG.
IMO, bad things happen in these kind of activities even if everything is done right.

I can see your point to the extent that injuries can be reduced. But prevented? In rough and tumble contact sports? I disagree.

I must say that even though I've only been doing judo about 4 months, it is a hard slog. Its very rare when I dont head home without aching more than a little bit. But at the same time - its not ballet - its a combat sport and I expect this.

But what I would be concerned about would be the injuries you get as you continue to use it over time rather than a single botched effort.

For some reason I dont tend to get callouses and blisters on my fingers, I dont know why. Maybe it's because Im getting a habit of going for legs.

And after seeing some nasty spills on Koga's DVD etc - I dont think I'll be wanting to do it competitively.

It's not just Judo,

ANY contact sport.

combat sports seem to be the worst of the lot.
