There's no way this is real this tiny old Tai-Chi cat would get ruined in real life. But apparently Jet-Li is one of the founders of the academy he rolls with....

The tai-chi master is hanging his ass down and leaning backwards and the judo black belt tries a hip throw when he could do a efortles ouchi-gari:icon_chee

You should try it. Taiji is actually a pretty formidable grappling style. I didn't believe it at first, then I tried some of the techniques and they were effective on the mats.

Ahahaha, love how Pettas was playing along, he was probably dying of laughter on the inside but didn't want to humiliate the aikido dude.

Taiji can be very legit. It's obvious that the judo guy was going fairly easy on him though. Unless he just forgot what ouchi and kouchi gari were for a day.

Plus it's funny how they have "winner!" when the judo guy touches the ground gently with his hand to balance. Yeah that's technically a point in TJ, but not in judo.

I don't think it's fake but it's not particularly remarkable either. It's a good concept, but not remarkable in terms of how difficult it is to learn. It's a lot harder to learn how to throw than to defend, in any way. Also, it's not always suitable for Judo because it's exhausting to resist at all times. It's obviously going to be better in the Taichi context though.

So I use those types of skills in Judo, but like I said it doesn't always fit. It's good against upright throws and to some extent leg trips, but it's harder to apply versus leg shots or sacrifice throws. Those are often very situational, not something a general skill can help you deal with.

Also the guy actually had poor posture.

This is gold. Roundhouse kick from 6 feet away, leave your back turned and wait for the choke.

He had an horrible posture and extremely wide, either its fake or the judo guy didnt wanted to humilliate him.

Ouchi or kouchi would had been enough but a snapdown or a circle and push would had done it either.

The universe cannot handle the clash of such internal chi. It is too dangerous.

When I was in China Taiji and Badminton were very strenuous forms of exercise...

Well I think another part of it is that when something is going to be televised like this, filmed in an Asian society, you don't want to look like the complete dick who goes nuts and brutalizes some old man. So you just kind of putz around half-assedly and then make some respectful comments. Otherwise you will basically make an ass of yourself in a society that won't forgive. It's a dog and pony show, and all the participants know it.

What happens when you don't play by the respectful dog and pony show rules? Witness the criticism this guy got for this hilarious conflict.

I've seen worse videos than that. Ouchi/kouchi would have been options but I honestly don't doubt the taiji guy's ability to root himself and make it very difficult to off balance, especially when he isn't going for any offense at you to give those windows of opportunity.
