Hey guys,

I finished all the formalities for my promotion, just waiting for the forms to get through to USJA.

I was wondering if some of you guys could help me out with some gift ideas/suggestions to get my club. I know it is a normal practice to sometimes give a present to the club or Sensei for Shodan or higher promotions.

Any ideas or suggestions would be EXTREMELY appreciated!!

Thanks!

I gave a kettlebell when my friend opened a school. They use it for warmups now. I also bought him a small potted bamboo plant and it's been growing strong near the front door for a few years now. Adds a nice decorative touch to a normally pretty bare training place.

One more crash pad never hurt anybody.

Our club just got one, but I think you are correct in saying we can use one more. Good idea to keep in mind! :)

As far as Kettlebells go, we have plenty at our disposal from the gym. They are fantastic, indeed!
Big fan of plants - good call as well. Symbolically perfect.

How common is this? I didn't give anything when I got my shodan. And neither did anyone else at our club. Is this expected elsewhere?

At my place we just throw people with promotion/birthday/etc etc

If your club does not have Judo Masterclass books for check out, might start there.
