There's an org in Florida called Island Fights Championship that puts on MMA+Boxing shows in a boxing ring.Mike was 2-0 in MMA and needed a fight so he stepped up on short notice against 6-1 boxer Kenneth McNeil who isn't a journeyman at all, he's since challenged for a version of a world title (lost by split decision) and he's a only year older than Mike Perry at 26 (they were 24 and 23 at the time). If you watch the Kenneth fight you will see Mike's wearing UFC socks.

He's not a boxer and only trains boxing for his MMA career, plus Mike's fought on another ISC card as a mixed martial artist so it's pretty clear he just took the fight for a payday and to get in the good graces of a local org. He didn't fight for IFC again till almost a year later and by then he'd won 3 more MMA fights.
