Josh Gross calls out UFC Press Packets -2006

Did Gross used to work for the Sherdog?

Yes....He was one of the pioneers.

And he use to really piss Dana off by do this crazy thing called reporting facts...

He is the main reason the UFC stripped their press credentials. There was a time where Gross and the rest of the sherdog staff wouldn't play ball with Dana and be one of his propaganda wings...

Obviously that has all changed very much in the years since Gross has left. Sherdog gradually became another of of Dana's lapdogs. And what do you know? He now likes them...

i thought it was because he reported the TUF 1 winners

what did he do?

It was an icehouse podcast so lots of guests. All he said was his reasons for justifying releasing the TUF 4 winners (which was a lowblow move and I'm glad he still is blacklisted for it!). But he didn't contribute much else and generally looked out of place. I thought it was creepy behaviour anyway, He had no reason to be there.

He had many more problems with Gross before and after that...

Most of it had to do with sherdog recognizing the top organization in the world, who put on the best shows, and had the best stable of fighters....FYI - it wasn't the UFC....

PRIDE you mean?

Did Gross used to work for the Sherdog?

Yeah, he was the editor and did beat down with tj desantis and also had his own poscast, with the best diaz interview ever in 2008. Dana still hates him for reporting Tuf 4 as if it was just news, not respecting the reality show aspect, so sherdoggers knew months in advance who would be in the final. Plus, Zuffa resented sherdog following the general consensus that pride was a superior org with superior fighters.

Also, his espn podcast from this week has a great Javier mendes interview about the first Cain vs. jds fight. I learned a lot.

There was more too it than just Gross though. Sherdog himself has said he and Dana had a fall out over texts, and Lorreta Hunt and Zuffa have never been too friendly either.

They've had their credentials taken away a couple of times now. I've never heard any of the Sherdog staff talk about Pride reporting being a catalyst for this.

Gross was good with TJ and has some salient and interesting points on MMA. He's no Jordan Breen, but there isn't too many out there who is

Got it. Thanks so much

Zuffa sometimes includes in "we" the pre-Zuffa UFC. They purchased the company they're entitled to do that; however, fairness would dictate that they should also take the heat for the pre-Zuffa "bloodsport" crap.

They do. They've been trying to erase that image with a different kind of branding that doesn't focus on gore; but athletes, a sport and regular employees who form the team so that they're recognizable to create a modern, sanctionable image. Tons of cash has been spent on lobbying in states, provinces and countries to sink in a new view.

Why should they give credit to everyone who's not on the payroll or has been a competitor? Especially after 10+ years of work. They sometimes give credit to people who try to sanction MMA, like that company and also Marc Ecko.

Gross also wrote an open letter to Dana White blaming White for Sean Sherk for taking steroids. Honestly Im surprised that ESPN hired him, he has burnt a lot of bridges and isnt the most professional.

Then again we are talking about the company that hired Rush Limbaugh as an analyst.
