Josh Emmett Calls Out Brian Ortega For #1 Contender Bout

On MMA Hour. Says following his win over Ricardo Lamas who was ranked #3 at the time of their fight, he wants either a title shot or a fight for #1 contender with Brian Ortega.

I think so, yeah. He wasn't in the top 15 before the Lamas win. I understand him looking to capitalize but I don't think the UFC will be on the boat. It sounds to me like Ortega wants to wait for his title shot too and I think the UFC will be inclined to give him the winner of Holloway/Edgar.

Emmet is way underrated. Didn't think he'd do it so quick and stuff, but I thought coming in he'd be able to beat Lamas. He was winning that whole first round as well.

Emmett looked very sharp against Lamas on the feet. I definitely believe he could outstrike Ortega but Ortega has shown to be very durable and is such a dangerous submission threat from any and all positions. He really is a FINISHER. When he goes for that sub he doesn't let you go. He knows how to readjust and tighten the lock up and finish the job.

Josh is a great fighter but Ortega looks to be on a whole different level than the division when it comes to submission grappling. I see two different fates for Emmett:

I'm pretty sure I've seen all of his other UFC fights. I've never seen him throw heat right out of the gate like that. The shots he was throwing, I said to my brother like 15 seconds before the KO, "If one of those fuckers lands, Lamas is going to sleep".

I sort of think maybe Emmett was hunting for the finish because he had a hard cut and was worried about his cardio failing him. I've never seen him throw such a high volume of pure power shots. They looked excellent though.
