18/8/2010 - the first time Joseph Benavidez , #2 Bantamweight in the world, tried to become a world champion in his weight class. He came short having a very close fight against Dominick Cruz. Since then he attempted 2 more times, and almost all of that time he was #2 - no matter whether in Bantamweight or Lightweight. Always one step from a gold, never being able to reach it. Not even a gatekeeper - any other contenders would probably have fallen short had they faced Benavidez before champion, BS decision vs Pettis is the only exclusion. Now he has his fourth attempt, a decade after the 1st one, and you know what? No one can promised it's the last.
If i were a judge i'd let him walk for the assasination of cruz and dj.. In another dimension he's the champ champ with the hottest chick in the game..
CANT BELIEVE THE JUDGES GAVE SERGIO THAT FUCKING FIGHT Benavidez only losses are to Goat Bantam Cruz, and Goat Fly DJ
Benavidez is super good, but he needs to win for the vacan belt, he is getting old and will be tough to cut weight ! He is more a bantamweight isn't he ?
What? He's exactly the flyweight as flyweights should be. Alcantara's going to be bigger and more muscular than him
He is the Kenny Florian of the decade. Faber was a reasonable second place, and Yoel is making a run for last 5 years.
Faber was actually the best FW in history pre Aldo. Florian doesn't come close to Joe. Romero not only a creative cheater, but also a failed LHW
Faber: Agreed, but that was before this decade. This decade he made a run at that ultimate number 1 contender. Florian: Agreed, but who was the guy ahead of him for that decade...wasn't comparing Joe to Kenny, but alluding to similarities. Romero: Kinda agree, but doesn't change those title fight counts.
