Jose Aldo has lost a few steps in recent years, but when he's on point he's one of the most skilled strikers out there. excellent in both defense and offense.

he also checked like 90% of leg kicks in his fight against lamas. probably the only fighter who can constantly defend against leg kicks in UFC.

I hate when people say he is shot and should retire. If you are still in there with the best and not getting brutally beaten like Bj Penn or Gilbert Melendez were.(Not saying they are getting KO'd all the time). Then you still have it. Aldo is still going to be top 6 in either division so just because people are better are ahead of him doesn't mean he is done.

Listen, Aldo in his prime is the best fighter I've ever seen, and this is not even prime Aldo. Now he's shot and should retire, but he still possess extensive MMA knowledge and skill like no other fighter.
Aldo is still good, you can't say he is just shot and out of prime just because he lost. He faced better opposition and lost fair and square. His gas tank was always a problem and Holloway pushed it and finished him. His loss to Vokanovski was based on his gameplay flaws he had for many years.

Oppppppsssss Suurrrrie.

<{walkerwhut}>Karate's been doing this for centuries.

Nice job though.<OKC16>

People assume his motorbike accident or the broken foot against KZ are the reasons for his lack of low kicks these days.
After years of being primarily a kicker there's no doubt his ankles are fucked. Unlikely it's one thing but instead cumulative trauma to the small bones in the ankle. The human body isn't designed to kick or punch things especially over long periods, we're designed for grappling and endurance.

Moicano is a dum dum though. Aldo got out leg kicked by Volkanator

Dropped to a new weight class, fought the #1 contender to a split decision that a lot of people think he won ... = shot and should retire?

He threw some calf kicks against moicano, lets hope he throws them against Yan.

<PlusJuan>though i wouldnt say shot, id say about 70% of his former self, which is still better than 90% current. For his brains sake though, perhaps he should

You both are wrong, he's not shot and needs to retire because he's still a top fighter at 145 or 135 but he also is past his prime. You can watch footage of his earlier fights and see that he used to be quicker and better with his kicks. He also was better with his cardio and was pretty much impossible to hurt in his prime, evidenced by the 5 round war he had with Mendes.

Grapplers tend to be the ones who need to have the most surgeries and injuries though

They wear gloves to protect their hands and most fighters don't use kicks as their primary attack. Every mma fighter grapples. If it was bareknuckle and they threw like they do now it would be snap city. It's also really hard to fix the small bones in the wrist or ankle compared to a shoulder, knee or hip.

You ever kick something solid with your ankle? It's exponentially more painful than a punch to the face and is immediately debilitating.

Very nontechnical understanding how fighting works. Mendes gave Aldo a comfortable pace, and he was 5 inches shorter than Max and had much shorter reach. Aldo needed to exert himself way more to catch Holloway while Holloway could comfortably extend himself and catch him after Aldo wasted his energy.
