Jose Aldo is so slept on and disrespected

Excellent fighter. Jose was a complete package, an excellent striker with solid TDD’s and great BJJ. FW’s came to outsize him, but really he’s only be truly surpassed by Max. Conor beat him quickly but as far as FW legacy goes Aldo trumps him soundly.

Honestly, if Aldo weren’t great he’d mean nothing for Conor’s legacy.

Anyway, I have him in my top 10 all time behind GSP, Fedor, Jones, Anderson and DC, but ahead of guys like MM, Big Nog, Cruz, Hughes and Saku.

Plenty of suredawgers brah

His career seems to be used mainly as a discussion piece by Conor haters or fans - and he gets left out of a lot of discussions he should be included in.

Just saying, there was a point in time where he had a claim to be the p4p best. That's a rare feat.
A lot of people came in during the lead up to the fight with McGregor so they don't really view Aldo's career in anything other than that scope. Not that I have a problem with that, everyone starts somewhere. But for many, their introduction into MMA matches was the Aldo/Conor fight and if that's your entry point it is easy to overlook his impressive career.

Not really sure what to say. The man had the belt for a long time, and a reason. Hard to dispute the very definitive nature and finality of that 13-second KO however.

Last round yea , that was it. Gsp had Hendricks, Jones had gus. Both gate keeper level at best. He ran through everyone after that until conor

While round 5 was the only one Hominick clearly won, it was a competitive fight. Hominick brought it on.

And there's no comparing Hominick to Gus and Hendricks. They're not gatekeepers - one is a former UFC champ ffs, the other has fought for a title 3 times and nearly won 2 of those fights, IIRC he lost a split to DC. So Gus is not a "gatekeeper" lol

There was a time in MMA history where people honestly weren't sure who was better, Jose Aldo or Jon Jones.

In 2011 Jon Jones captured the UFC LHW championship belt, becoming the youngest Zuffa era fighter to hold gold at 23.

Two years earlier Jose Aldo destroyed Micheal Thomas Brown to become the youngest ever Zuffa champion (WEC) at 23.

Aldo went on a 9 fight win streak from there, beating the likes Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes x2, Kenny Florian and Uriah Faber. And with the exception of the second Mendes fight, none of then were particularly close. Aldos takedown defense was the stuff of legends, and long with his hands, knees and jabs - his only weakness at the time was the tendency to lead with his rear hand wildly and his poor gas tank. He was talked about in the same sentences as Jones, GSP, Fedor and Anderson - the four guys everyone with a brain acknowledge as being objectively better than everyone else.

Then came Conor, who tortured him with world play for what seemed like a full year world tour, and then stopped him in thirteen seconds. What came after were a myriad of lower body injuries the mysterious abduction of his low kicks, some more reported than others then two curb stompings by Max Holloway. But none of that takes away from the fact that the peak of Aldo's career was nearly as high as anyones in the sports history

People legitimately pick Renato and Stephen's over him in recent fights before he showed that even one foot out the door hes still easily a top 5 type FW fighter.

He recently posted that he wants to fight out his current contract and retire. Dude will retire a legend, and one of the 15 best MMA fighters to place them up and inarguably one of the two or three best FWs ever.
Aldo is a beast, and if he and Conor were to fight again, my money would still be on Aldo.

I dont , he is the featherweight goat and one of the all time goats after Gsp and Fedor.

What did happen with Aldo’s leg kicks does anyone know ?

Agreed. Jose Aldo is is easily in the conversation for goat imo, but he's also my favorite fighter so I know there is some bias there.

The first live MMA main event I ever watched was Aldo/Faber.

One of the most impressive things about Aldo is that he was always improving his skills. Even in recent years as his body is in a decline, he's still sharpening his boxing.

Cheaters like Jones don't make GOAT candidate lists, pal.

Aldo is a Legend....

But Jones should not be on any P4P list..........how can people still consider him the "Greatest" after he cheated "TWICE"....and did coke....?!?!

Everybody deserves to be forgiven, everybody deserves seconds chances.......but just consider him the GOAT like nothing happen is absurd.....he is a cheater.....

FWIW, Aldo's hijinks with drug testing agencies should put him off the list too, if that's your criteria.

But back to Aldo... I think he deserves to go down as an ATG, a true legend in the sport.

But unfortunate as it is, when you get slept in 13 seconds and then turn down a rematch... and when you take 2 BRUTAL beat downs by Holloway... that is burned into the memory of MMA fans.

Just like when Conor's career is over and he'll be assessed... people remember him saying uncle to Diaz and Khabib.

No he isn’t. You can respect both Aldo’s and Conor’s careers. Aldo is the UFC FW goat but Conor is the greatest FW

The only people he can't beat are guys too big for FW who almost kill themselves to make weight.

Thread isnt about Jon Jones.

Though, more relevant- has Aldo ever even been in any trouble as a fighter?
My bad. Has Aldo ever pissed hot so many times like Jones and got away with it?? Hell no.

He should have retaliated when McGregor got in his face on multiple occasions.

Never underestimate the cost of not standing up for yourself when people are watching.

Aldo may place higher in all time lists, but Conor smokes him 100/100 times!!!!

Too many conor haters that are pissed that conor knocked him out and too many conor fans that want to talk about the knockout. Aldo is in the top 10 all time easy imo

Real fans know how good Aldo is. You don't have to be a fanboy to know. The casuals, trolls, and idiots are the ones running around talking out of their ass. And, unfortunately, most of the "fans" are made up of casuals who claim to be hardcore fans, but would tell you that Conor McGregor would murder a prime Mark Coleman.
