It doesn't matter what they're ranked now, it matters what they were ranked when they fought Aldo. Is this a serious thread? I must be getting trolled here.

Edit: Since people don't read the entire threads, and just the first page and last, here's what I posted on the third page.

Let's take a look at Jose Aldo's opponents and an appropriate and timely ranking of them in chronological order STARTING with when he fought Mike Brown for the WEC title. I can provide more than one article for each fighter, but for brevity, I'll keep it to just one. I'll use sherdog, mmamania, bloodyelbow, or even bleacher report when required. They're all legit, and they are rankings prior to the fight occurring.

1) Mike Thomas Brown, Nov 2009:

So, every fighter Aldo has fought since fighting for the title has been in the top 10 or higher, and not just in the UFC rankings that some people complain about even though they are aggregate rankings based on all of the media members that have votes.

As of May 12th, Connie is ranked #6 according to http://mmajunkie.com/rankings/#feather and he will actually be in the lower half in terms of rankings placed fighters that Aldo has fought since his title campaign began back in the WEC.

As a bonus, Cub Swanson was ranked 15th back before Aldo hit him with the double flying knee. http://www.sherdog.com/news/rankings/7/Sherdog-Official-Mixed-Martial-Arts-Rankings-17654

Every great champ has to fall at some point. I called Weidman beating Silva the first time around and I'm calling for Conor and Rory to win come July.

It's funny that people compare Conor's path to Weidman and Jones but don't see that Aldo is still on his prime or just got out of it. Shogun was inconsistent and Silva was almost 40.

Aldo has looked great in his past few bouts and also has had moments of looking bad. Conor has basically looked flawless in his fights in the UFC thus far. Styles make fights and Conor is a terrible matchup for Aldo, can you not see that? Just like Aldo is a hellish matchup for wrestlers.

Aldo's opponents (Faber, Florian, Mendes 2x, Edgar, KZ) >>>>>> Conor's opponents

come on.

He has 5 wins against the top 6, Connor has 1. You were saying?

LOL @ using top 15 so that both of their accolades appear roughly equal. One fighter has 10 #1 contender wins, the other has zero top 5 wins. How bout them numbers.

True but Aldo doesn't look to be in his prime to me.. he's been fighting wrestlers who just learned how to strike and most of his recent fights were very close. It is a very good stylistic fight for Conor IMO

Just being a terrible matchup doesn't guarantee winnig. Conor has looked flawless against decent fighters that are good matchups for Conor. Aldo has dominated a very deep division.

Like Frankie and Mendes? Or how about Florian? or Hominick?

You people pull the same old arguments out of Conor's playbook but you have no idea what you are talking about.

on another note, if aldo beats conor, he has destroyed his division completely. The only guy who he hasn't fought and is pretty close to a ts is max, who would get wrecked by aldo.

Most of Aldo's opponents would outstrike (much less outwrestle) McGregor. Brandao was catching Conor with haymakers and Siver was able to get him down. Imagine either of those against Mendes. Conor would die.

Conor's biggest attribute is his mouth. This will be abundantly cleat when Aldo destroys him.

Nothing is guaranteed in MMA. The fight isn't guaranteed to even happen until both fighters are in the octagon. Aldo gets hit quite a bit in his fights and we've seen how well people take Conor's shots. I don't hate Aldo at all so I'm not trying to sound biased, I just think Conor has something special going on and will tko Aldo. Aldo may not be old but he has been fighting for 11 years and thats a long time in the mma game.

It's stupid to even try to compare the competition these two have faced up to this point.

Aldo has been fighting the best guys in the division since he became champ in the WEC. Conor has just arrived in the top 10 and has to build a legacy now. Lets talk again in 5 years and see if Conor can manage to put comparable list together.

If this fight happens I guarantee that Conor will lose.

He fought some ok strikers, but most of his fights were against grapplers and they were really close fights. Even his most dominant wins in the UFC (Lamas, Hominick) they got the best of him in later rounds
