When I look through a lot of the posts regarding Jose Aldo I can see a lot of disrespect for the man. He has crossed that magical 10 year undefeated streak in the deepest division in MMA and he has done it with zero controversy.

Every champions time comes to an end. For Aldo he is walking into the perfect storm when he steps into the octagon against Conor. He is about to be systematically dismantled and finished within three rounds and it's not going to be close BUT…

…That aside, the guy deserves his respect. On these forums it's clear that the majority of posters have no appreciation for his skills. After Conor wins he has huge shoes to fill. I hope the Zuffa hype machine doesn't throw Aldo to the curb because in reality - I doubt Conor will be able to replicate what Aldo has done over the past 10 years.

That doesn't make any sense.

It made perfect sense. Anyway… This thread is completely relevant now. Here's hoping he gets respect from fans coming into the rematch because guess what?

Aldo has a good chance. He made the mistake I knew he would make. He can't handle Conor's power. He has holes in his boxing and the knockout was always coming [I just didn't expect it so fast].

When these two inevitably fight again: Aldo needs to go full blown Demian Maia. He knows he can't stand with Conor now…

…The rematch will be interesting.

Which isn't fair. I knew he was walking into a KO for a very long time… But I honestly feel sorry for the man that he has to deal with things like this ^^.

It's only the conor nuthuggers, who are simply a loud minority. Anyone who is a fan of fighting has to respect both men's skills.

LOL at 'it's not going to be close'.

Agreed. He takes this loss on the chin... literally.... but he has been an astounding champ.

I worry McGregor brings in the casual's disrespect... much like Tyson did in boxing. But such is life.

So had Barao. And no one talks about him. And Barao is a more excting fighter.

Dude has as many defenses as GSP, more than Bones (and doesn't have guys who'd spent the last 5 years at a lower weight class on his title run like Bones does) and an undefeated streak stretching back longer than both of them while fighting in one of the most beast-rich divisions in MMA.

Sure he's not Mr Spinning Shit or yapping it up in English, but win or lose at UFC-194 he's already established as easily one of the all time greats of the sport.

Easily.

I disagree with you, I think he gets plenty of respect. The guy is an amazing fighter, possibly the best in the UFC but lets me honest - he pulls out of fights and does a piss poor job of marketing himself to the fans in the USA which is probably the primary posters on this forum. I know he is huge in Brazil, could have been bigger here if he really wanted to be.

I just can't wait to hear what excuse Connie fans will come up with when he eventually loses.

Calling somebody out for retarded posts by making one yourself. Classic

I agree TS. Don't worry though. Most of these guys are just Conor butt boys who only started watching MMA once Conor beat Dustin. These group of fans have single handedly dropped the overall IQ level of this forum.

It reminds me of the movie Happy Gilmore. Before Happy entered the golf scene the fans where all quiet, preppy, rich folk. Once he became popular with his brash style it brought along a bunch of inborn, redneck, hillbilly's who started to take over in the crowds. The extreme Conor fans who say "Conor Bless" or "KO round one" as their replies without leaving an explanation why are the hillbilly's.

They disrespect Aldo now but after the 12th these fans will have no choice but to respect him as he brings tears to their eyes. Can't wait until these guys become extinct.

Maybe it because he constantly complains, pulls out of fights and could give a shit about marketing himself.

Agreed but looks to me he has slowed down the last couple of years. Could be him playing it safe. He said he liked that GSP played it safe and could follow in his footsteps.

He's widely regarded as the 1 or 2 p4p fighter on the planet, it's hype he doesn't get enough of.

Its true,

the way the UFC constantly shitting on him is disgusting.

Dudes run/reign is historic yet they treat him like an average fighter.

This is MMA. If that statement doesn't make sense to you it means you only just started watching.

nothing about Aldo is particularly likeable, the UFC tried to make him likeable with a 'rags to riches' schtick. Guy doesn't care about his fans, makes no attempt to learn English. Doesn't care about marketing himself. Has pulled out of I think 5 fights. Acts like a meek little man around Conor/gets tooled and outtalked by Conor on the daily. 5 of last 7 fights have gone to a decision. Pulls out of Conor fight but still tries to trash talk Conor while healing from a supposed busted rib given to him by a sparring partner trying to imitate Conor.

I don't think it's necessarily about respect, it's more about likeability. It almost seems Aldo wants people not to like him.
