I rewatched this fight ANd a bunch of other jones fights. Was jones taking it easy?? It felt like he was playing around. Thought he could easily have finished him on several occasions. Why did he take it easy ?

Did he take it easy?

I remember 3 things from this fight

- Jones landing a sick counter elbow that rocked Rashad

- Jones eating a right high kick like nothing

- Jones eating an overhand right like nothing.

He still had a lot of respect for Rashad. Rashad got him into the game and showed him the ropes, I believe he didn’t want to finish Rashad out of respect. He could have easily muscled him to the ground and finished Rashad off if he actually committed to a takedown.

he gave rashad more respect than other opponents because he full well knew rashad was a real threat to him. fortunately for him rashad isnt always there in the head so it seems.

You have up and lost you mind son. At no point was Rashad even remotely a threat.

Bones had a sick trip on Rashad in that fight, threw him like a paper weight. I can't find a gif of it and now I'm sad.

Rashad landed one big punch and one big kick in the 1st round, then had nothing after.

Rashad was no more of a threat than Machida (who destroyed Rashad) or some of Jones other opponents. I think it had something to do with them being old friends and training partners. Jones seemed to be both (1) respectful but also (2) not always going 100% or looking for the finish...maybe to make a statement that he could beat Rashad with relative ease.

As for Rashad not being there in the head, I think it was once of Rashad's best performances, especially in striking. He'd been training with Tyrone Spong who was in his corner. Still, Jones dominated every aspect of the fight.

Ok? Jones and Rashad trained together so Jones knew Rashad and what he was capable of. He wasnt as great in that fight compared to others because Rashad was a credible opponent and one Jones perhaps respected more so than others.

rashad that fight was probably jones' best opponent aside from gus imo.

Seemed like Jones was toying with him at times.

Jones whooped him but it wasnt one of Rashads best performances, he seemed hesitant he didnt pull the trigger like he should have. Obviously because of the opponent he was facing, but Rashad didnt seem like he left it all in there. Rashad vs Mr Wonderful for example, man Rashad from his walk out to his performance just seemed to be really on top of his game all night. Looked more confident than i ever remember seeing him.

I remember Rashad being hit flush and just strutting away and Jones admitting after the fight that it did impress him. It may have made Jones feel like putting Rashad away wouldn't be so easy.

He is loathsome human being. He didn't have any respect for Rashad. He was disrespecting him from the moment the fight became available.

He didn't finish him because he couldn't. As we all know, he could now.

Watch the fight. Jones didn’t try a single takedown, even when he had Rashad on wobbly legs. Watch his fights vs Shogun, Chael, Rampage, DC, Bader, and Vitor; when he really wants to finish somebody he takes them to the ground.

Both the head kick and the overhand right hand Jones backing off Evans to reset. I'm not saying Jones was rocked but those definitely stung. Jones admitted that the overhand had him feeling that Evans was still dangerous.

Maybe cause Rashad has better TDD than those guys except DC.

I think once Jones started landing those standing elbows it reduced Rashad to go into defensive mode and to protect that eye.
