Apart from selling seats/PPV.... I dont care how "real" the beef is, trash talk has little to no part in predicting how "brutal" a fight will be ...

For example look at shogun v jones ... Shogun acted like a perfect gentleman before the fight, but took an utter ass whooping during that match ... Dude looked like he was in a car crash after ...

Now look at Cormier vs jones ... The trash talk never stopped from day one, press conference brawls, even death threats ... Yet come fight night neither fighter took any real Damage and the fight was a hug fest... Cormier face was utterly unscathed after...

Let's be honest we were all conned again in to believing some WWE bs!

Without the trash talk we probably don't see the cheapshot ending, but yea, you shouldn't enter a fight expecting a higher level of destruction based upon their talk. This was just fun to see two people prior to an event that seemed to have a great deal of confidence in victory knowing that one of them was going to get their first legit loss of their career.

It can go either way like Rashad vs Rampage or Cerrone vs Diaz and the list goes on....

They really went at it the first three rounds, then gassed. Pretty good fight overall imo.

Without the trash talk the fight wouldn't have been half as interesting.

Plus this time the trash talk was actually for real, which is quite refreshing.

People like Chael Sonnen just turned into cartoon characters with their trash talk.

It puts asses in seats. The bar where I always watch fights was packed. I've never seen the bar that busy before and I'm there almost every weekend.

Jones-DC was a good hard fight.

And no one predicts a "brutal" fight.

I don't know why you think there would be a correlation. How much fighters dislike each other has no bearing on how well they defend themselves. Cormier and Jones are both very defensively sound so it's not really surprising neither did massive damage.

Glover seems like on the most congenial, polite guys out there and the fury and brutality he unleashed on Fabio Maldonado was cringeworthy. So you never know..

I don't get it... If they would have hugged for the first 2 rounds then came out hard for the last 3 rounds everyone would have loved it. Instead there was zero feeling out, went balls out for the first 3 rounds and people are pissed.

All it really is, is hype.

Any high-caliber professional fighter at level is likely going to know how to emotionally control themselves during a fight to their best.

Right. Exactly. Great point. It may be fun to imagine two fighters who dislike one another going all Frye/Takayama on one another and just throwing bombs with no defense but these guys aren't going to do that. Just because you hate someone outside the cage doesn't mean you aren't going to do all you can to minimize the damage you take while fighting in a strategic way to decisively beat your opponent.
