If you’re Daniel Cormier, and you just watched the Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes fights, and the UFC tells you that you fight either Jones or Miocic in June 2020, which way are you going?
Personally I would go Jones hunting, provided that his teams thinks that the weight cut won’t be too debilitating. I think he has a better chance to beat Stipe, but taking out Jones would bring his career full circle and rewrite the narrative in a way that I simply don’t think a competition like Daniel could pass up.
He could also immediately vacate in the event of a victory and challenge Stipe, if he really wants to double down on the ultimate farewell tour. Alternatively he could walk away on the ultimate high. Might be slightly more perfect to take out Stipe first, but the time is now for Jones it that fight became available.
