At this point in his career, Jones is able to tell the UFC when he wants to fight, and they pretty much have to listen to him. In this situation, he should take full advantage of it.

He should say he "wants to take some time off" then have the Gustafsson fight in December. Then take some more time off and maybe push the Cormier fight back to the late summer/early fall 2015. Why would he do this? It's simple. Cormier is already 35, and the older he gets, the worse his chances of beating Jones. Jones should delay as long as possible to maximize his chances of an easy victory.

If a champ wants to take time off they should be stripped imo. They only fight 1-2 times a year if that and thats not even counting the fact that they get injured every other fight. You wanna cherry pick fights, play games, and duck contenders then you need to find a new job. Why do these guys need time off when they get 8months off in between fights? its not like they are pulling a cerrone and fighting 6times a year...shit makes no sense to me. /rant

I'm not sold on the fight happening August 30 so I'm sure the Gus and Cormier fight will be delayed.

DC is most likely not going to age drastically in a 6 month difference from when the fight happens. It is more likely that he will just improve more of his game in the extra 6 months since he is still young in the sport.

Give him two dates, if he's healthy and denies both, then strip him of the belt and give the belt to Gus vs. Cormier winner. Simple. Tired of these little girls demanding who to fight, fight or get stripped.

Sure, let him take all the time he needs.
If GSP is allowed to take a break, why can't Jones?........Oh wait.

The champ can't do whatever he wants. The ufc can tell us whatever they want and we have to listen. Dana told us that fedor sucked and some of you actually believed him. Jones is no different. He can bury jones just as easy as he did Tito, shamrock and fedor. Fuck with Dana and he ends you.

That's what his camp aims to do according to Winklejohn to play mind games with Gus they wanna draw out on signing the fight. You see stuff like this is one reason why Jones is disliked by fans.

Well according to the shertards here, Cro Cop was in his prime after winning the grand prix, but 7 months later was a shell of his former greatness and old when he lost to Gonzaga. So it must be true.

But in all seriousness, at DC's age, time does become a factor, no matter how young he is to the sport. All it takes is one injury to derail your career ala Cruz.

Jones has been one of the most active champions in the entire company. And you're going to strip him? Gee, Gus didn't get stripped of his number one contender status when he sat on his ass after he couldn't fight Moose, waiting for a title shot he didn't earn OR deserve. Jones haters are among the most clueless people on this website.

    You're welcome.

You mean, one of the reasons why his "haters" dislike him. Jones can do what ever he wants. He's already the greatest LHW ever. He's a fighter and he'll destroy Gus when he feels like it.

Why would you want healthy champions to not fight? They dont fight enough as it is. I would have no problem seeing any champ stripped of the belt is he doesnt want to fight.

You think Jones is unpopular now...

Last i checked a fighter should be willing to face all up and coming fighters. Youre pretty much saying jones should be a bitch and duck ppl as long as he can until he absolutely has to fight. Thats how a coward would defend his belt not someone like jones who says he wants to go down as one of the best ever.

if what you say is true, then the ufc is 100% entertainment, and is not a sport. i've always felt that way, but now it is even more lopsided towards the side of entertainment.

it's understandable, but a bit sad too.

I don't want to see other champs adopting this Anderson common strategy to try and force the UFC and other fighters hands to avoid key matchups.

    F-that TS.
