Jones pegged it before the fight. He broke Cormier in that 3rd round and he gave up. Like him or hate him Jones is the real deal. I hope we get to see him fight Cain at some point. I don't think Cain would steam roll him like others think. Either way I'm going to appreciate the talent he has and enjoy his work. Great performance from the best LHW ever. Case closed.

He shouldn't have gassed himself out by running to the cage.

You are right. DC was broken going into the fourth round. He's on the stool, and his trainer knows it and he says, "DC do you want this fight?" Cause he can see it in his fighter. DC isn't the same man he was in the first two rounds of the bout already gassing and confused.

Damn it was great in the first two rounds seeing a Man willing to go toe to toe with Jones up close and personal.

Props to Jones for an incredible work rate and taking Cormier down piece by piece.

    Great fucking fight!

Don't you really mean that his poke to the eye in the 3rd changed the fight.

i was really surprised at how well jones was doing in the striking in the early rounds.

I thought D.C.'s chance was to get inside and wrestle

it was literally the exact opposite, D.C. did better with punches and did fucking horrible in the wrestling.

i can't believe he only got one takedown (sorta...jones really landed on his knees)

but it all really did come down to D.C. breaking or cardio gave out, whichever you want to chalk it up to, he certainly wasn't the same in those last two rounds.

Jones did jack shit in round 5. Cormier took the fight to Jones and Jones rallied in round 4 but round 2/3 cormier looked like the stronger fighter

When Jones got those two take downs he ripped Dc's legs out with zero resistance. At that point I knew he had nothing left. I've seen DC Gassed in a few victories he's had and he coasted. That was not good enough against jones. Jones proved he's mentally tough once again and highly skilled. It was a tough fight but another W and another defense.

DC to challenge Weidman? Dude looked like he still got a couple pounds to go, could provide Weidman a challenge possibly.

DC lost the same way Gus did, in the championship rounds where true champions take the belt.

Then when he gets beat by Weidman he gets lypo and challenges Rory/Hendricks/Lawler only to discover he can't take them down either.

If he gassed like this fighting Bones, you think he's got a better chance at cutting another 20lbs (at his age?) And fighting Weidman, who presents an entirely different set of problems (more striking power, better submission game) than Jones?

I don't think so. His best bet is to go back to HW, where his speed and skill is a better match for the plodding and overweight old men who who occupy the division. And he'll probably have a better shot at the title since my bet is that Cain gets stripped.

DC expended probably a little too much energy in those first two rounds

I felt DC broke too. After all DC said about taking Jones into deep waters and breaking his will, it was DC that lost his will....

Nope. I doubt he means that, because it's not true.

yeah, that surprised me, too. I expected Jones to work the outside and avoid the clinch, and for Cormier to have some early success in the wrestling department, perhaps even winning the first two rounds.

I was shocked to see Jones not only get inside but control Cormier from the clinch. I thought Cormier definitely landed the hardest strikes of the fight, though. Jones seems to have a solid chin.
