How would this fight have turned out had it taken place in 1999 when it would have meant something?

Who would have known Jones was prone to pressure from big men, Ive always picked Jones to box DM silly if they ever fought but after wathcing the Tarver and Johnson fights I wonder how Jones would fair against Michalszeski (spelling?) who was not as refined but fought like a throw back 1950's brawler, would have been tons of fun to watch

The Tarver and Johnson fights took place in 11/03, 04, and 05. In 99 Roy had super sonic speed and threw 5,6,7 and 8 shot combos. DM was easy to hit and the ref would have had to stop that fight mid to late if Roy didn't KO him by then. A 1999 Roy Jones beats anybody, that fight would not have even been close, you're talking about a 29 year old Roy.

Jones. And rather easily.

Does DM have Marky Mark doing his entrance live?

Jones picks him apart.

I actually think D-Mich may have forced a prime Jones to stop him by continuing to press on through an onslaught (like Clinton Woods). Most fighters tasted Jones' speed and became reluctant to attack. Jones would then downshift and be satisfied to take a decision. I think Dariusz would have continued to press and get stopped for his trouble. Not before giving Jones some tense moments.

I think Jones wins a close one, a few rounds, but we'll never know because Roy had a better time fighting the Reggie Johnson's of the world around that time.

Bad example. Reggie Johnson was a good fighter.

Reggie Johnson was in the top 15(some say 10) pfp fighters in the world when Jones beat him. Very bad example.

Jones would have beat the hell out of DM. Why? DM had too much heart. Every Jones fight started the same way. Jones' opponents would rush him, he would counter(ussually dropping them), they would get defensive and content with just lasting the distance, Jones(who was heavily dependent on counter punches) would allow them to last.

DM wouldn't have stopped rushing Jones. Jones' would have had all the opportunities a counter puncher could ever dream of.. and DM would be a beating mess by the mid rounds.

The 1999 Roy Jones Jr was not bother by big light Heavy weight ,remeber he beat guys like Davie Telescoe , Clinton woods Julio Gonsalez , derrick Harmon and Richard Hall all were Very big Light Heavy weights that Roy handled with easy but these same fighter with the exception of David Telescoe put lots of miles on Dariusz Michalczewski odometer , he had lot of trouble with these same fighters and finally losing to Gonsalez..

the Roy Jones of 1999 had his speed, stamina and strength and would be a little to fast for Dariusz Michalczewski

Tam if it doesn't involve Floyd, you don't know about it..lol

Reggie was without a doubt in the top 15. He sent William Guthrie out of the ring on a stretcher in one of the most brutal ko's I have ever seen. he was considered a very strong opponent for Jones at the time.. Ofcourse, after Jones easily defeated him, everybody started making excuses.."Jones couldnt just be that good..it has to be something wrong with Johnson"

i remember the ring magazine hyping william guthrie up a bit for a fight with roy, think hed been in prison before, had beat a couple decent guys or whatever, then i finally see him fight and reggie johnson just wrecked him, i believe it was early too. that was a real highlight reel KO.

yeah thats a bit of a stretch, I just said he was a good fighter. Jones should be credited for fighting him and wrecking him (arguably Jones' best performance at 175)

The Rick Frazier crap is the stuff Roy should be ashamed of.

I am telling you right now, Reggie Johnson was NEVER an elite fighter. Not when he was prime and not when he KOed that unbeaten old man drug fucked criminal. Reggie took a beating in his next fight out vs Tarver as well. Winning two out of twenty four rounds against top comp, means you aren't that good.

I wish I still had my old ring mags.. Im not the only one that had a very high opinion of Reggie Johnson. He absolutely was a world class fighter. And the tarver fight was about 3 years after the Jones fight and it was a close fight still..1 point on one card..2 on the the other two. In his absolute prime, Reggie Johnson nearly beat a Prime James Toney, and defeated Steve Collins(the one that Jones supposedly ducked). Like Jones, Johnson was an undersized lheavy when he began moving up the ranks in that division. His fight with Guthrie was like David vs. Goliath..where Guthrie had every advantage except technique.
Telesco was simply an oversize lheavy that provided action packed fights. Jones beat him with a verified-pre-existing broken wrist if memory serves.

I'm done with this. There's a difference between seeing a fight with your own eyes and reading a ring report on boxrec.
