I thought Reyes did enough to take it 48-47 but I had a feeling Jones would be awarded round 2 (the one of the first three that struck me as the closest in terms of optics if not raw numbers) and thus retain the belt. 49-46 score was disgraceful. How did Jones take more than one of the first three?
That said, close fight. Even in, potentially, a point where he is starting to exit his prime, Jones is still incredibly tough to beat because he has the following elements- a nasty chin, good command of the distance, a wealth of experience, strong cardio, great energy management and then of course just his overall skillsets which are high level. There was, of course, a time when he was starching guys and taking little to no damage in doing so. It seems like those days are over. These competitive, long battles like he had with Santos and Reyes cannot be great for the long term.
Jones does not look as dominant now as he once did when he was fighting guys on thier way out and likely enhanced. The only one hd looked remotely good as of late was gus 2 and Smith caught in headlights.
