I'm not gonna say this is some sort of elaborate plan for Jones to go full-heel and garner interest, but if it were, I would say it's working damn well.

IMO, the ideal timetable for PPV buys is the following:

1) Jones ducks Gus, UFC agrees to match him with DC.

2) DC pulls out with injury.

3) Jones finally gives in to fight Gus, most epic rematch and story-line, perhaps besides Weidman-Silva but maybe even more-so in UFC history. Mainstream interest is peaked, 1M+ buys ensues.

Am I stupid and crazy? Probably, but tell me that if it played out like this it wouldn't be massive :icon_surp

I personally am down to see either fight, I thought Jones would run-over Gus the first time, but obviously I know better now, and as for the DC fight - that would just be epic.

You really think that Jones thought to himself:
"I'll act like I'm ducking Gus to make people angry with me and think I'm a ducking him, surely that is good for business."

I mean come on.

The closest thing to this might be that he really does want to duck or delay the fight with Gus for some reason, and simply doesn't care if it makes him hated.

No event is hitting 1m anytime soon...

No, on the contrary, I said I don't think this was an elaborate plan, all I said were "if it were...". I truly don't think it is planned, I just think its working out well for the UFC's bottom line assuming he ends up fighting Gus.

Didn't Weidman v Silva 2 do 1M buys? If I'm wrong, forgive me, but if I'm right (which I did just look it up and am simply going off the top google search) - than please don't act like its not feasible for it to happen again.

What's more likely to get a reaction/interest/attention from the a-holes in the MMA "fan" community?

Jones doing something that will cause those a-holes a reason to feel like they need to knock him down a peg on teh internets?

-OR-

Jones being a sportsman?

Yeah ... it aint the second one

Jones pretending to be scared to get more buys is far fetched at best.

I highly doubt that is whats happening. It wouldn't add any value that's not already there. This rematch is, and has been hyped to the max already, everyone that's gonna buy in is gonna buy in.

This "pretending to be scared" theory people are putting forth is more apologist than anything. It's more likely this is the only reasoning hardcore Jones fans have left to explain away what's happening.

The tinfoil is strong with this one

But I've been wondering if this is all a WWE esque conspiracy plan as well

judginng from the number of threads and press.
Its certainly garnering attention, between Jones and the UFC there are millions to be made so its not out of the realm of possibility

What better way to sell the story line of Jones being scared than for Jones to pretend he's scared?

People already believe he has a reason to be scared, so why not play that angle up to hype the fight?

That's a double whammy.

Grasping at straws while wearing a tin foil hat.
