Jones cost Comier 500k

If Jones is truly sorry, he gotta pay Cormier's kids' college tuition.

Yep, in all this sucks for DC the most. He did what he was supposed to do and got fucked over for it.

I only feel partially bad for DC. Remember, he pulled out of their last fight and Jones ended up fighting a no name on short notice.

Sure, DC was injured, but he could have had his fight with Jones if that was the only thing that mattered.

Maybe someone can explain this to me: I was under the impression that fighters get a set amount per fight in any given multi-fight contract. And then when one contract is up they negotiate another.

So how does Cormier's opponent, or whether or not it's a title fight, effect his payout?

I don't know to be honest.

Well, I could be totally wrong here, but it's my best guess. So far as I understood champions (or certain fighters) can choose for PPV points or a large sum of cash instead of PPV points. It's reasonable to assume DC would have gotten a big lump of cash for the Jones fight instead of PPV points, but that this amount was lowered considerably when the opponent was changed (lowered because of interest, hype, expected revenue etc).

That's my best guess. It seems to me he didn't have the PPV points, otherwise half a million seems a bit of big discrepancy. Like I said tho, I could be totally wrong.

Each bout agreement is its own entity. We don't know the details of DC's promotional contract, but its safe to say he gets paid on a sliding scale from a number of factors.

It is safe to assume he has PPV points based on being champion. His base pay likely has elevators and requirements - one of those being a title fight is X and a non-title fight is Y.

Instead of fighting for the title over 5 rounds, he took a 3 round fight with a much lesser opponent, and they offered him less to do so.

No disrespect to Silva, but that was 3 rounds of easy money. It is safe to assume Jon getting booted cost some PPV buys, so this is how the UFC took care of themselves and stiff DC. That is the business as its been run so far.

He was set for a million dollar base pay but when Jones got pulled he got offered 500k and Silva got 600k. Thats ridiculous to me, they both should have gotten a split of what Jones was set to make.

Brock got 2.5 million and hunt recieved 700k comparatively.

Thoughts?
Totally agree, it was absolute bullshit.

The pay rates UFC gives out always piss me off

It's a fuckin joke

I'm sure DC got some extra undisclosed cash handed to him in the end. Silva probably did too. Both of them were awesome to go through with the fight at the last minute.

Injuries are out of Cormier's control. It's not like he wanted to be injured. Jones wanted to gain an advantage by using PEDs, completely different.

Especially considering they probably saved 4-5 million by not having to pay jones. Lol
You reckon Jones would have been taking home that much up front?

I reckon he'd be taking 1.5 - 2 million home for show money.

PPV points might have got him up to 6-8 region.
