Jon Jones said he'd fight anybody, even at heavyweight. Mark Hunt wanted the fight. Why didn't they pick him? Nothing against OSP, but he's not at the top level (yet). His best win is over a washed up Shogun and he lost to Ryan Bader. This is the wrong fight to make. There is no hype behind this fight. It's an easy fight for Jones and if Jones somehow loses, than the UFC will have lost one of their biggest stars and potential high-profile fights like Jones-DC2 and Jones-Rumble will be jeopardized.

This will seriously hurt PPV numbers. Not that many people will buy the card just to see Jones back in the octagon and expecting him to steamroll OSP. All 3 of Mighty Mouse's fans will buy the card too. pettis-Barboza is a very exciting fight to see, but it's a non-title bout so it doesn't have that push behind it. Conclusion: low PPV numbers.

Imagine if they went with Hunt. PPV numbers would be through the roof! Another 1.5m PPV buys. You would have Jones going up to heavyweight, something many wanted to see for a long time now. He would be facing Mark Hunt, former K1-champion, fan favourite and KO artist. That would be a fight with wild speculations about what is going to happen. If jones loses to Hunt, he could still fight DC and Rumble at LHW. If he wins, than Jones' star power would increase tenfold. Imagine Jon Jones get walk-off KOed. Just the possibility of this happening would sell huge numbers.

They made a bad decision giving OSP the fight. They could've made the card a lot more exciting and made a lot more money.

UFC would be going full Pride with Jones vs. Mark Hunt and that would have been a great thing.

Because if Hunt KTFO'd Jones the medical suspension could have put him on the sidelines for a few months.

Really?

Wait...we could have had Hunto vs Jones?

Its jones' call. Most fighters pick easy on shot notice so this was best choice. AJ stands a punchers chance way too dangerous.

Hunt can KO Jones into oblivion. But looks like OSP can do that too (without walkoff though)

I dont get the idea of Hunt vs Jones. Hunt on the ground vs Jones?
And if Hunt has a puncher's chance, then so does OSP. At least OSP has athleticism and can hit you from angles.
So I think OSP makes at least as much sense as Hunt.
Rumble would have been the best.

Rumble turned down the fight for medical reasons.

Why do you have to drag MM into your pathetic whiny post ? He has nothing to do with Jones or anybody else. And he certainly had nothing to do with Cormier's replacement. Grow up, clown.

Hunt vs Jones would have been epic and so fun!!. it would have eclipsed Nate vs Conor if Hunt knocked Jones out cold.

Those fights would still happen.

A win by OSP would just give new blood to the division and make it more interesting.

No way Jones should fight Hunt. Get out of here with that. OSP is fun to watch and the right weight.

Fucking Wand fought Mark Hunt and Wand is basically a blown up 185er --- Jones has a huge size advantage over Hunt if we're not looking just at weight. he's way taller, way longer reach, he's just as stong, he just doesn't have a shitload of fat on him. He's a way better wrestler and offensive grappler. Wands game was to bang it out with you on the feet - Jones has options. Stop acting scared for Jon vs. Hunt - he would and should be favored vs. him. It would just be a fun fight, but Jones is a lot better than Mark Hunt is at MMA.

I brought him up when I wrote about PPV numbers. MM does low PPV numbers. If your reading comprehension was above the level of a toddler you would know this is why I brought up MM. Go be an angry manlet somewhere else.

I think it's the best option for the UFC, they sacrifice someone that wasn't going to be an option in the future. It would have been a shame if Rumble wasted his opportunity to fight Jones to show unprepared. In no reality Jones VS Hunt breaks the million PPV anyway.

It'll still sell because of Jones being back in the cage. OSP seems to be the highest ranking LHW who took the fight.

Hunto vs JBJ is a huge risk fight. Stepping up a weight class last minute doesn't work out very well last minute. And Hunto walk off KOing JBJ wouldn't just hurt Jones itd give everyone second thoughts about Jones ever moving to HW. Or if JBJ beat Hunt then the remaining LHW fights for him lose their lustre as everyone would just want Jones at HW.

thats not a good fight for jones - they want to set up the fight w cormier, but also want to make money on this show - it doesnt always work out but they will at least make money - lots of people prob dont even know about the change in main event and will prob buy tickets still
