News Jon Jones Releases First "OFFICIAL" Statement Post-Retirement Announcement

by wrestling a guy with no wrestling?

it was impressive, but incredibly is a stretch.

Captain hindsight over here.

The Jones derangement syndrome was in full effect before this fight. Most thought and hoped Gane, who was supposedly the "real champ" after Ngannou was gifted a decision against him, would smoke 'old skinnyfat Joners'. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Khabib gets shit on for “ ducking out early” all the time
The small amount of criticism Khabib receives for the way he conducted his career is completely incomparable to the mountain of shit Jon receives for the way he conducted his career (and for good reason). Don't even pretend the two are remotely the same.

Did he leave on top?

The problem is how he left.

He should have retired and never went to HW, then he would retired on top.
He shouldn't have moved up a weight class to fight guys 40 to 50 pounds heavier than where he started, and win the belt and defend it?

Yeah, that was a career-diminishing move. Totally.

Yeah Jones should've retired after getting KO'd in the first for the second time by Bader of all people.

Oh wait that's one of the other guys you think should be ahead of him.
No lol how he ended his career this way left bad taste in many fans mouths. I have Jones 3rd on my GOAT list but try again..

If Shogun had refused to defend against Jones he'd have been stripped for ruining UFC 128's PPV that needed him to defend on. Jon was replacing Rashad to save the card already. If Shogun refused to defend Jon would've just fought whoever that night for a vacant title instead.

Anyways, I don't know why you keep harping about this when Tom is 32, not 23. He's older than Shogun was for fucks sake.
The age difference between them, in both fights, is almost identical, 6 years (Jon will be 38 next month), and would have been 38 if he'd not have run off, tail tucked, and they actually fought.

He didn't retire because he wanted to. He retired because he didn't want to fight Tom. Spin it whatever way that makes you happy, but that's what happened.
100% everyone knows this he wanted nothing to do with fighting against Tom right now.

No I’m quite sure It would have left a lot more bad taste getting KO’d by Bader than this

That’s a neat way of saying Tom is even older than Shogun was while you continue to try and plant a narrative of Tom being some young new prospect

I can't think of 1 but the fact that he is nearly 40 and 30 fights in makes sense to me that he is saying "Enough"
Cmon man 38 is not 40, yes at that age every year matters and plus age is not that critical for hw.

@markg171 is in shambles hahahh

He was always a miserable fuck anyway, but now?

Only Jones could make retiring undefeated being so shitty that people are just like God, finally fuck off.

Here's hoping when Jones does real prison time he doesn't hurt any innocents in the process

I’m actually quite looking forward to you all saying Tom/Gane is for the real belt after saying Jones/Gane wasn’t.

Undoubtedly a GOAT, but this is a HUGE asterik on his entire HW run.

No STEROIDS cheaters is going to be the "GOAT" of my favorite sport. Sorry.

He started at 20 years old.. That is damn near 20 years man.. GSP pretty much hung it up at 32..

So glad to move on from this. I think eventually people will be softer on Jones. If you think about it, Ngannou's last great wins were also Jones wins. The double champs never do much in their second division and Jones real legacy is at LHW which he's done with.

I see boxing sort of like Mayweather now, I could see more appreciation for Jones down the road.
It's crazy to me that antone thinks this is almost over. It's only just started. When your name is in goat talks everything you do is put under a microscope.

People will be talking about how Jones shamefully ducked like this on his way out for at least the next 20 years. You're going to see it brought up every single time there's a goat conversation and argued for 100 pages.

Just like Anderson's ped busts and losing to Weidman 2x, or gsp losing to Serra, Fedors losing streak etc. This is a HUGE black mark on his career that will come up every time his accomplishments are discussed.

Nah smoking Gane was incredibly impressive. Hate on the Stipe fight and ducking of Tom all you want but nobody has made Gane look like he didn't belong in the cage with them.
Wrestling a non wrestler is impressive? lol
