He received very heavy criticism for his performance however had he sustained any serious injuries he may not be able to fight on UFC 200... Without this main event the UFC would be fucked... Aside from a GSP comeback or a compromise with Conor this is the only option. As boring as it was Jones shut OSP down and took very little damage.

No reach/ eyepokes

Yup, that was the point. Win without doing anything stupid, he did that and good for him. Not sure why anyone expected him to come out like Bruce Lee and dominate OSP in seconds. He did exactly what I thought he would, shake off the ring rust and float to an easy decision.

he didnt exactly get many people excited for todays news going by how many people watched the presser

Completely not true because Bones himself said that he will make a statement!

last minute change in opponent and totally different stylistic match up.

Ring rust.

threat of awkward OSP power punches.

Done.

two hundred shmoo shmundred!

the UFC doesn't live or die on one PPV.

they're not Bellator.

I think you'll find OSP was the one who played it safe, it takes 2 to tango, OSP was happy to survive and go the distance even if he lost every round.

playing it safe simply would have been pulling out of 197 altogether and waiting for cormier at 200.

Yup, he was coasting easily against OSP. totally controlling the fight and didnt need to do anything stupid.
