I'm surprised at Jones admitting how close the fight was now. He even said he "won by the skin of his teeth" in another interview and didn't expect the fight to be hard at all.
At least he's being honest with himself now. Some guys will keep believing their hype and won't admit someone got the better of him. With Jones, he knows it was close, he took the guy lightly and realized he couldn't coast anymore.
It seems like he meant it was like all the positive experiences of losing without having to lose, rather than admitting to losing
Yea, that's how I took it as well. But you never know
That fight was weird for Jones because he ran into someone who basically was the same build as himself, he didn't have the reach and leverage advantage he usually enjoys.
You could tell it threw him off his game, I think next time he would implement a more wrestling based game plan for Gus
Damn, during that one moment where he was actually being honest he comes off as likable. He should be like this all of the time.
"You can call it the art of fighting, without fighting"
It's not difficult to understand, losing often makes guys better. This way he was able to reevaluate, and possibly recommit, but didn't actually suffer the loss on paper, but took a beating in the fight like he would have if he lost.
Nobody really won that fight. I think that is obvious. That goes for a lot of close fights. I didn't know who the judges were going to give it to. When a fight is that close, it is a true judgement call. I don't know if either guy lost it though. Jones did win in that the UFC treated it like any other win, and that is really all that matters.
every word is so hyped. its crazy
Well yeah.. He couldn't admit to losing could he? He didn't 😕
Yeah it was as close as a fight could be. Couldn't of been shocked if Gus had won. That being said I am a believer in the whole 'to be champ you have to beat the champ'
If it's that close in a title fight I give the benefit of the doubt to the current champion
Totally agree. Sometimes it seems lie he gets caught up in all that Greg Jackson new age attitude BS. This interview was great.
hes still saying his cardio "wasnt where it needed to be", even though prior to the fight he posted that he KILLED his S&C records from his last camp, or something like that
Nordic Knight put on a great fight, but honest fans of MMA know he lost 3/5 rounds.
I had Gus winning initially, but after watching it more the the first 3 rounds were so damn close they could have gone to either guy depending where you were seated.
4 and 5 are also very debatable with each guy having their moments.
WE NEED A REMATCH
i agree with this
I don't get why everyone is hating on Jon Jones all the time. People say he's fake but he just tries to act professional when he's doing his job. Sure, he's cocky and makes insulting youtube videos but at least he's not pretending to be a saint like some fighters. Plus if you were that young and dominating people in the UFC I think it would be hard not to be so confident.
