I think the vast majority of retired and non-retired UFC fighters don't watch much MMA, they might tune in for a big PPV or need to watch tape for an upcoming fight, but they definitely aren't watching regularly.
The product has gotten worse sure, but I also think most current & former UFC fighters have a love hate relationship with the organization and the sport. It's also a cutthroat business, where most fighters don't want to see potential opponents have any success. Jealousy, envy, fear, it brings up a lot of emotion many fighters try to avoid.
If you've watched Usman KO Masvidal 30 times, you can start to believe the hype or media opinions. You can build your opponent up a little more than what they actually are, you think his right hand is more deadly than it actually is. Those feelings deeply scare many fighters.
