Outside of joaquin's performance the joker really wasn't good.

It had a terrible ending too.

Joker can stand on its own merit as a movie absent any Batman / comic reference.

I feel that Civil War is one of the top 5 Marvel Movies but it is dependent on the rest of the MCU in order to work and tell the story.

I voted Joker as people who aren't comic fans could watch it and get something from it. Civil War is more geared to comic dorks having the familiar trope of spandex clad heroes punching each other.

Winter Solder vs Joker would be closer and I might vote Winter Soldier as the better movie.

Interesting comparison. I think joker was a very cleverly made movie, addresses a prominent cultural issue, had the tone of a classic taxi driver type movie, and tied an iconic character into it nicely.

But purely as a movie, its not that good. Felt kind of hacky actually. Its a 6.5/10 at best and people really over rate it because of those other factors.

Civil war was a genuinely good movie. Great story line and build up, multiple strong characters with their own motivations and arcs revealed throughout the movie. A good balance of comedy and light heartedness that marvel is so good at. It was a really a great, well rounded movie experience, and i could watch it again multiple times. I'll never sit through the joker again. Solid 8.5/10

The Joker was a movie for people who like Dramas and character development. Civil war is for comic book nerds or people that like action movies.

There's a difference between doing drama and character development, and doing it well

Some people talk about the joker like its the godfather or shawshank redemption, or even taxi driver which is like the predecessor of joker. Examples of character development done really well and not hitting you in the face with it.

The joker had a great performance by JP, but in terms of the drama and character development, its pretty hacky and heavy handed. It honestly felt like a high school student's interpretation of the joker's origin story if it was borne out of mental health issues.

Or maybe, they're great films because of acting, directing, storyline and themes? Specialized critics and awards prove that.

You should check out this poll made by a prestigious magazine, that asked over 170 critics from the world to form an impersonal consensus of the best films of the 21th century. There are others, even all-time.

Note: I voted Civil War.

Maybe you should've asked the specialised critics and prestigious magazines about their opinion on Joker vs Civil War instead of sherdog then...

You really didn't elaborate anything, you just bashed TDK, dude i understand that you hate the whole trilogy, but there is a reason to bring it off topic here?

I'm not the only one here saying Joker is just a mediocre movie with great acting, so I'm guessing you took offense with me calling TDK mediocre as well.

I don't see how TDK isn't relevant to this. They're both movies set in the imaginary world of Gotham and about the same Batman villain, and are both widely praise more for the performances of the actors playing the Jokers rather than the movie itself.

On the contrary, I very much love the trilogy especially TDK and TDKR. I love them because I think Joker and Bane are 2 of the best villain portrayals in comic book movies not named Thanos. That doesn't mean I can't recognise that both their plots suck donkey ass.

Joker was a nice steak.

Civil War was a nice candy bar.

I liked both and generally prefer DC's darker take... However, they generally fail to execute as well as Marvel does. Civil War is a bit more my style of high end clashes and dynamics.

Joker is an absolutely killer 0 Issue flick though.

Watched Joker once, it was good JP killed it...

CA:CW multiple times , including once for a study on personality profiles.

I can respect art and performance...Walk the Line was better IMO

but for entertainment....yeah gimmie that Civil War
