International John Bolton torpedoed the Trump/Kim Hanoi summit

Sheldon Adelson forced him to appoint Bolton. Trump couldn't turn away Adelson's money and influence.
Didn't hear about that I'll

I'm shocked!

However, wasn't this summit in Vietnam? Or am I thinking about another one?

Bolton wants to take a hardline on everything. This shouldn’t be a surprise.

Can we just throw Bolton in prison already?
He's a fkn nerd that lucked into power, and he is a career politician type that common sense and real think left decades ago. These lifelong do nothing types end up being literally stupid, with some power to back it up. There's 50,000 people in the United States tgat got a dui at a young age that kept them out of government employment that are smarter than dorks like Bolton. Term limits, and job term limits for non-elected political hacks.

He unilaterally withdrew from the Iran deal (just because Obama negotiated it) when literally every other major power in the world is fighting to keep it intact, he eliminated the rules of engagement and ramped up the drone war, and he's blatantly lied about the "withdrawal" from Syria.

The people who still take Trump's anti-war, isolationist shit seriously boggle the mind.

....and how could I forget the coup that he's trying to have Elliott Abrams engineer in Venezuela as we speak?

Which is working out wonderfully by the way...

Bolton will be a hero to the left if he comes out against Trump after leaving the WH

Bolton is jelly. Wants Lil' Rocket Man for himself.

Sheldon Adelson forced him to appoint Bolton. Trump couldn't turn away Adelson's money and influence.

Is that true? I thought he appointed Bolton because every one of his other advisors was telling him to stick with the Iran deal, and he wanted out.
Bolton sketched an out for him, stroked Trump's ego, and bingo.
After all Adelson had backed Bolton in 2016 and Trump hadn't given him a position.

Adelson is a yuuuge GOP benefactor. And he is totally behind Bibi. Trump does everything Bibi wants. Trump , and the GOP, need Adelson money. Trump was non-interventionist in 2016 and criticized the Iraq War, which Bolton supported. But Trump goes back on what he says and he has flipped 180 regarding the Saudis and Arabs. So no surprise he changes his attitude towards Bolton when he realizes he needs Adelson.

The embassy move and other recent decisions by the president have been in line with the Adelsons’ worldview, which sees Israel’s existence in a state of perpetual uncertainty and facing potential obliteration. The Trump administration announced last month that it was cutting more than $200 million in aid to the Palestinians.

Mr. Trump installed a longtime Adelson ally and Iran hard-liner, John Bolton, as his national security adviser. Mr. Bolton displaced Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, whose ouster Mr. Adelson helped hasten when, after some hesitation, he decided to support a campaign that publicly accused the general of undermining Israel’s security.

The millions the Adelsons put behind Mr. Trump in 2016 — mainly through a super PAC that attacked Hillary Clinton — did not come until after it was clear that Mr. Trump would most likely be the Republican nominee. But it was funding that Mr. Trump badly needed given how many of the party’s other major donors had shunned him.

The Adelsons’ support remains critical to the administration as other longtime party donors recede.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jun/08/sheldon-adelson-trump-middle-east-policy

Adelson gave $82m toward Trump’s and other Republican campaigns during the 2016 election cycle – more than three times the next largest individual donor, according to Open Secrets.

That commitment bought him an attentive hearing from the new administration as he pushed for the appointment of Bolton as national security adviser knowing that he would be an important ally in getting the White House to kill the Iran nuclear deal. The New York Times reported that Adelson is a member of a “shadow National Security Council” advising Bolton.

The day after Trump announced that the US was pulling out of the Iran agreement, Adelson was reported to have held a private meeting at the White House with the president, Bolton and Vice-President Mike Pence

Trump appointed Bolton because Republicans desperately need Adelson’s money

Bolton wants to take a hardline against North Korea, he wants to approach them in the same manner as how the West dealt with Ghaddafi, and has stated this. In 2018 North Korea already rejected similar demands made by Bolton.

A reason or the main reason for the Kim/Trump summit in Thailand collapsing is only now being revealed. Trump handed Kim a piece of paper telling him to hand over all nuclear material to the US and dismantle chemical and biological weapons. The North Koreans took this as an affront and insulting. This is Bolton's thinking that Trump is following.

The document’s existence was first mentioned by White House national security adviser John Bolton in television interviews he gave after the two-day summit. Bolton did not disclose in those interviews the pivotal U.S. expectation contained in the document that North Korea should transfer its nuclear weapons and fissile material to the United States.

The document appeared to represent Bolton’s long-held and hardline “Libya model” of denuclearization that North Korea has rejected repeatedly. It probably would have been seen by Kim as insulting and provocative, analysts said.

--
Jenny Town, a North Korea expert at the Washington-based Stimson Center think tank, said the content of the U.S. document was not surprising.

“This is what Bolton wanted from the beginning and it clearly wasn’t going to work,” Town said. “If the U.S. was really serious about negotiations they would have learned already that this wasn’t an approach they could take.”

Town added, “It’s already been rejected more than once, and to keep bringing it up ... would be rather insulting. It’s a non-starter and reflects absolutely no learning curve in the process.”

So the master negotiator thinks making the same demands , demands that were rejected multiple times, again and again is good negotiating?

I think it is delusional to demand NK get rid of nuclear weapons. They know how the West deals with countries that can't fight back. So as long as Bolton keeps advising Trump, this whole Trump-Kim summit and deal is just theater for the gullible , because nothing will come out of it.

Weird fingerpointing and partisan hackery on this subject, yet not suprising. NK is going to get rid of it's nukes. If that is by force or negotiation is up to them. This isn't a new issue nor is it Trump or Boloton's fault. Thanks to successive Presidents over the last 25 years instead of dealing with the "what do we do if we have to deal with a hypothetical Nuclear North Korean State" we get to actually deal with a North Korea that has nukes. Shocked I'm not shocked that the anti Trump Leftists in this sub forum can't see that.

Everything the US has ever done with NK has failed. It was time to try something new.

Because it wasn't intended to work. It was intended to get the President at the time through his Presidency without having to confront North Korea.

Two hooks on chains, hung from the ceiling of the cell. Pierce his mustache with the hooks, and hang him 24 hours a day. Call it the Shitty Strappado.

The peaceful, tolerant Left, folks.

Or maybe because the Iran deal was shit and stopped Iran from doing literally nothing it wasn't doing already.

A hardline approach was Trump's folly from day 1. Let's not pin this on a patsy.

good job blumpf. you were supposed to drain the swamp but instead you surrounded yourself with neocons and goldman sachs

I don't know, I mean Bolton himself said he was persona non grata in the Whitehouse until he wrote his bit on exiting the Iran deal.
Seems strange that campaign financing would switch foreign policy priorities in early 2018, as opposed to Trump wanting out of the deal from the outset.
It's not as if he'd taken a different position on Israel during his campaign.

You are trying to paint this as another unreasonable attempt to malign Trump, just as all Trump supporters regurgitate "TDS" and "Orange Man bad" everytime Trump is criticized.

You are focusing on Trump when the focus of the O.P. is on Bolton, with Trump being secondary. You can call criticism as "anti Trump" but the reality is that the Trump admin bamboozled the public when they portrayed the Kim/Trump summit and talks as real progress. Trump flat out exaggerated what could happen, and along with his National Security team of Bolton and Pompeo was never serious about negotiating.

--

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is dismissing as "a real eye-roller" President Donald Trump's assertion that if anyone else had been elected president the U.S. would be at war with North Korea.

Yes that's right, Trump is actually claiming his election prevented a NK-US war. Sp before you knee-jerk defend him, you might want to take a step back and consider how much he exaggerates and lies.

It's Trump's failure. Why shouldn't he be maligned?

You're trying to malign Bolton, and you're upset that the thread is stopping the buck with Trump. It makes no sense.
