I can say without a shadow of a doubt I did not inject Nandrolone into my body. I am sorry to my family and friends for the shame this brought to any of you. I promise soon the whole story will be told and I will go through whatever is necessary to find the reason for this positive test. I am at fault for taking a supplement or perhaps combination of something that caused my test result. My team and I will. Seek the truth. I am sorry once again and truly apologize to the people that matter the most to me.

Joey Beltran

Beltran is on thin ice with the UFC to begin with. So, one of two things happened here...

1. He honestly didn't know that he had ingested anything illegal like he claims.

2. He knew he needed to win, and couldn't risk another loss and another release from the UFC. He purposely took the PED.

I want to side with number one because I like Beltran, but both seem to be possible scenarios.

If you're Dana, what do you do?

Thoughts? Theories? Discussion?

I want to believe Beltran but i think he juiced on purpose.

I love beltran. I believe him no matter how hard it is to do so.

Yeah, I'm a fan to. He always comes to fight, and has always been a decent gatekeeper. Was excited for his move to 205, in hopes of him putting a string of wins together then something like this happens and its kind of a bummer.

it's really tough to say. I have a buddy who tested positive after a fight for a smaller promotion out here in california. I know the guy well, and he told me "i didn't use roids at all" and he was definitely not lying to me. He believed it was a combination of supplements that fucked with his system.

It's really easy to believe a guy is lying when he says he didn't use, but I believed my buddy - he was telling me the truth, IMO. (had no reason to lie to me, and we're close enough that he knows i would never speak on those issues publicly had he said "yeah, i fucked up and used")

tough one, but weird shit does happen. Sherk stood in front of the AC and proved the supplements he took were contaminated. The AC obviously refused to admit they were wrong, although they mysteriously cut his suspension short.

it's not always black and white with this shit. there is most def a gray area.

In your opinion do you feel that a fighter knowingly taking PEDs and taking PEDs by mistake should have a different level of accountability?

Should fighters maybe not take supplements to save themselves from this situation altogether?

I really like Joey, but it's hard to say.

Anyone can purposefully take steroids/drugs and what not, and think 100% that they can fool the test. Half of these apologies are just because they got caught, not because they are cheating.

#2, he new he needed a win and took the risk.

on what should happen, well like him or not he should be cut.

this supplement argument seems to always come down to " oh i took some supplement that blah blah blah, it must have have had steroids in it"

the best one was from King Mo, when he failed it was because he took some supplement that he had bought two years before, not knowing that that supplement had since been put on the banned list. i nearly fell off my chair laughing when i heard that.

Yeah, which is why I have no respect for King Mo as a person. I like to watch him fight and think he's a decent fighter, but as a person I put him up there with Rampage.

He screwed up, excess nandrolone stayed up to long in his system, and he got caught.

Those stories about "incidentally" stuffing yourself with artificial hormones/steroids are usually hilarious, this one's just lame.

Virtually every guy who gets caught says this. You still believe this excuse?

These guys live to train and fight. They know what's going into their bodies.

more gray area really. Supplements aren't technically wrong, according to the rule books, which makes it interesting. I think if a fighter is taking supplements (I've literally never met one who doesn't take SOME form of supplement), he's got to understand that there is a CHANCE things could come up, a mixture, or tainted supps could lead to a failed test. Guys have to be willing to acknowledge that. Should their level of accountability be different... man I really don't know. I can say this: they shouldn't be completely floored if they fail a test if they're pumping six different supplements in their system everyday.

What I do think is, some of these athletic commissions need to approach these problems with an open mind. The NSAC and the CSAC are both notoriously narrow minded. If a guy can enter a court room and PROVE that the cause of his failed test stems from a legal substance that had some form of issue, and still not have his slate wiped clean, there's a problem. Some of these commissions simply refuse to admit they were wrong, even when it's proven, and that's a problem.

At the end of the day, it'd be nice to see guys do it all 100% natural, but thats just not going to happen these days.

end of novelesque response lmao

Didn't Sherk pass some lie detector tests as well?
