Joe Smith Jr. vs Steve Geffrard Jan.15th ESPN

That's really unfortunate.

Uzcategui ain't doing anything, and Callum Smith could keep the Callum name alive :)

Way too short notice though, so cue sad trombone.

Steve Geffrard agreed Friday to replace Callum Johnson as Smith’s opponent January 15 in a main event ESPN will televise from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. Geffrard (18-2, 12 KOs) is unknown and unproven at the championship level, but the 31-year-old Miami native is in shape because he was scheduled to fight Argentina’s Gonzalo Andreasen (7-8, 6 KOs, 1 NC) in an eight-rounder Saturday night in Delray Beach, Florida.

Will be rooting for geffrard and guidry in their world title campaigns this january.

Absolutely shocked earlier when I got a notification from ESPN and I saw Steve Geffrard’s name. From 2010-2016, I’ve probably hung out with him like 30 times. Haven’t seen Steve in over 5 years but super excited about this. Would genuinely love to see him pull off the upset. In 2010 Steve won the National golden gloves, National PAL, and the US Open as well. He beat some pretty impressive names in the amateurs. Main reason Steve’s pro career hasn’t taken off yet was because of injuries. I know Joe Smith is the favorite here, but I ain’t counting Steve Geffrard out in this one. Obviously I’m bias lol

Steve will most likely be up for a brawl with Joe Smith. Should be fun. I love Steve’s style. High guard, excellent jab, walk you down. Kinda reminds me of Glen Johnson a bit. Steve Geffrard showed me 2 Rounds of sparring with him and Glen Johnson. Was quite entertaining. Unfortunately the video ends after the 2nd round with Glen Johnson saying no filming then the video ends lol

Can’t wait for this

Thanks, broseph, I thought it deserved a new thread since both main and co-main have changed.... pretty meh, but he's not without some craft so it MIGHT go rounds, and it's remarkable that they got a replacement on a week's notice.
I agree… crazy that someone accepted a fight with a big puncher like smith with so little time

Geffrard was a much better amatuer than Joe Smith. Almost made the 2012 Olympics. Lost his first 2 fights but won every fight since.

Still I got Smith winning

I hope it's a good fight, but if Steve goes in to brawl with Joe, he's getting KTFO.

I think he's fleeter of foot, and is has a little handspeed advantage, but brawling negates the only advantages he may have. Bang in spots, then back on the bike.

I guess you have to consider conditioning since Steve was training for an 8 rounder?
I'm glad his absence from the sport was due to injuries and not mental/interest because this fight is going to test his heart...well, and chin of course.

However it turns out, I'm grateful to him for seizing this opportunity and keeping the card alive. Huge set of brass ones, and if he can pull it off he's the LHW Kambosos... star over night. Huge opportunities can make for legendary nights in our sport.

Hmm this card is look a bit...

Well maybe Nova will give me some entertainment.
Lol!!!

weak card overall…. ESPN letting a ton to be desired with their top rank cards if you ask me… a lot weaker than the average PBC and Dazn cards for my likings … I might pass on this weekends card …
