Media Joe Rogan: "Jon Jones developed spinning back kick at 36, didn't have a spinning back kick his whole career"

Yeah he's thrown plenty, although they never had anywhere near the power this recent one did. I could give Joe the benefit of the doubt on that one....it's like if you say a guy developed a right hand, because now he's knocking people out, it doesn't mean that he literally couldn't throw a fucking punch before....

The thing I hate about the current Internet is this sarcastic mocking culture, where you pretend that the opposite side is just absolutely retarded and make yourself feel superior by laughing at their absurdity. I blame the Daily Show for this back in the 90s.

Most of the time you think your opponent is making such a ridiculously stupid argument that you're laughing at the absurdity of it....take a pause and it's likely you're not interpreting it honestly.

Something similar happened recently with Douglas Murray and Dave Smith, everyone, including political commentators, are outright being dishonest and pretending Murray said you literally can't have an opinion about a place unless you've been to it. His real point is that Dave Smith has made an entire career out of talking about Israel and Palestine for the past couple years straight, and is a well off guy with the means to travel there, yet hasn't even bothered to go. NOT that he can't have an opinion unless he goes. I think that's a fairly valid criticism....

Kinda generous, but potentially accurate.

"He didn't have a spinning back kick his whole career" is a silly statement.

Once it becomes "He didn't have a spinning back kick (TKO) his whole career" it makes much more sense.

When we were all in school, there was that one little weasel who LOVED egging two guys into a fight.

He'd be the idiot in the hallway saying:

"Hey John...Derek said you can't bench for shit...and that you're a wimp..."

Rogan somehow turned it into a career.

Definitely felt like this could be about Ariel Helwani.

He does this in every PPV at least once.
  1. "It's over..it's OVER!!! It's OVER...he's got that kimura locked in!!!"
  2. "Whoa...somehow the other guy got out of that!!!"

It's basic sports broadcasting 101. You don't CALL the game until it's truly over. It's one of the FIRST things they teach you.

Next time you watch an NFL game, pay attention to how the announcers never dig a grave prematurely for a team, even if the team is getting its ass kicked. They may dance around it a bit by saying "Well, this team certainly has work to do...", but they'll NEVER explicitly call it a done deal until the final score is tallied.

It's not only disrespectful to the athletes who are putting themselves out there, but it also runs the risk of making you look like an ass on SportsCenter later if you turn out to be wrong.

UFC commentary is abysmal. Total bush league trash.
I dont know, I think back when I first started watching c. 2010 Joe had this fan enthusiasm in his color commentary that was kind of charming in it's own way like your older brother took you to the fights and was telling you what was going on. He then got progressively worse and I think when he started crying when he was interviewing Ronda and called her a once-ever athlete he passed the point on no return

Yeah I didn't at first, but I'm getting the vibe that Joe Rogan is on some high feeling. He talks like if he were enjoying every aspect of the conversation... As if every sentence were said in a reflective way and he'd at the same time enjoying tripping with those statements. Well, he seems happy and weed helps some ppl with creativity, so maybe he's in the process of developing his creative side.

Joe is just full on embracing the MAGA lifestyle of "lie about whatever, with confidence, and people will believe you." What a moron, do steroids fuck with your memory? Or is he inhaling pounds of weed a day?

Well, when Chael is amongst the serious commentators right now on UFC, to the point he said in one video "and I'm talking serious shit here, if you guys can't follow that's not my problem, I'm not in here hallucinating thinking about moon aliens like Joe Rogan" .... Lmaoo

Agreed with your post until the Dave Smith stuff.

It's the first time Jon got the finish with it, but that's not how Rogan worded it. Made it sound like Jon has never thrown it before which is hilarious since it's one of his signature strikes.

Yeah he's thrown plenty, although they never had anywhere near the power this recent one did.

yeah, but that's not because he unlocked some secret technique after training it that he never had before, it's the hardest one he's ever thrown simply because he's now bigger than he's ever been.

Old man Joe Rogan who is in his mid 50s of course will see a 37 year old as much younger and “lightning fast” and still young enough to learn new tricks. In reality, Jones landed that spinning kick to the body of a 42 year old Stipe. Good luck trying to land that on Tom.

Its sad whats happened to Joe. There was a time when he was a sharp witted good looking charismatic dude with an infectious passion for the sport. He really was a boon for the UFC back in the day. Now he looks like a cave troll and acts like hes got CTE. Getting old sucks.

Jones has thrown that spinning back kick so many times before, he is really good at it. Rogan is so out of touch with UFC now, can't believe they still use him, he doesn't even know who most of the fighters are anymore, he only knows the top names, the rest he rehearses during fight week with his prep team.

That's why he begged for Stipe for years. He knew Stipe was shot, he was slow, and he was a tall guy with arms much shorter than his. He was dying to hit Stipe with that kick. Stipe should have never taken than fight, but whatever.

Joe has never been a true stoner, he always gave me the vibe of the rich kid that smokes a little bit of weed to look cool.

When he was "smocking" a blunt on his podcast, he was only taking a few puffs.

When he was hanging out with Coco Diaz, he got called out for using lame weed.

You know, Steven Segal invented the spinning back kick.....
