Joe's boxing coach didn't want him to fight and Dana obviously appreciated, agreed and respected that however Joe kept pushing and pushing for them to let him fight of which Joe said he will do all these different things and if he does are they ok with him fighting again, they then came up with this extensive list of things they wanted him to do, which he did. Joe text Dana and said "Give me one more shot, if the fight does not go well I promise you'll never hear about me fighting again" of which Dana said deal however he won the fight and just said the following on Ariel's show:

"I was super unhappy with my last fight, I'm very happy with my last fight now so maybe I'm ok with being done, I hate it when people say 'Oh I'm retied' and then come back 6 or 8 months later so I don't want to say I'm retired just yet, I'm likely not fighting again but will see, I'm not 100% ready to say I'm retired just yet" - he basically doesn't want to close the door right now and want to fight again later if something comes up.

Joe also has the following accolades under his belt.

    • 13 UFC finishes (most in LW history).
    • 15 wins (4th most in UFC LW history).
    • 15 bonuses (tied for second most bonuses in UFC with Nate).

He's a good dude and I like the guy so I wish him the best of luck whatever he decides to do :)

PS I'll add the video once it's available to the OP and time stamp it also for people to see :)

Edit: Video just been added 5 mins ago to the channel, I've time stamped it from when he's talking about this as well as the quote being in this section also.

So pretty much what every fighter does when they "retire"

Not really, how many say they're going to retire and then they're wanting to come back later confusing people in regards to what they're actually wanting to do, this is what I mean you have to admire him for not wanting to do that and confuse people etc.. which he mentioned :)

Seeing Joe get possibly his final W in his hometown this past Saturday was awesome.
Did it in amazing fashion as well.

Lauzon was one of the first dudes I remember watching when I got into MMA back in 2009.
Dude was always dangerous. What a career.

Yeah, it's so easy ain't it when you see fighters have a couple of losses to write them off too but because they've been around a while people will then associate that with them being past it when really they're just having a few losses like a lot of fighters have.

He basically doesn't want to be one of those guys who says "Oh I'm retired" and then later be like "I want this fight now", he wants to say he's done when he's done so he might say something soon but not yet as he doesn't want to be one of those guys.

Ideal time to hang 'em up.

Domiant hometown victory with a 1st round finish in classic Lauzon style.

Plus, Jonathan Pearce is about the only LW on the roster (maybe 2-3 others from DWCS) that I am confident Lauzon beats in 2019. He's too shopworn, he got his gift hometown opponent, time to do te right thing now and call time!

He looked good beating Pearce, why go out on a win?
The time to retire is after a loss so he should keep going until he loses.

Good on Lauzon for knowing when he wants to finally call it a career. He went out in vintage fashion.

Yeah, the reaction he got too was great.

I don't know, I can see both sides you know cause going out on a win is a great way to go out but also after a loss too (think Gus, although I know he's not retired) is also like a "Thank you" also.

I'm fine both ways to be honest, I don't think you have to get to the point of having a loss before retiring cause it's like going out on top with the home town win.

I do honestly see both sides to be honest.

I hope he retires, it's nice to go out on a win and he has no chance of approaching the rankings at this stage of his career. If he sticks around too long he's just going to end up on the highlight reel of some up and comer. He's had 27 UFC fights with a very aggressive style and has taken enough damage, imo.

Dana said he'll force him to retire. I hope he's got some kind of job lined up for him. If you tell a healthy fighter coming off a win to quit, you should offer him some kind of severance package. Give him a UFC gym to run in Boston or something.
