Joanna broke three records at UFC 193 !

4th record: most boring fight that didnt involve grappling

That front kick was beautiful. I could watch it for quite some time.:)

That's pretty damn impressive. They shouldn't have put her on the same card as Ronda, all these accomplishments were overshadowed. It's a damn shame Ronda got a fight of the night bonus for that and not JJ
I thought that bonus was bullshit too. Since when does fight if the night go to a lopsided fight where the other person had no offense? It's fine if it's a domination like Gil and Diego so long as the loser had their moments, but no way should Ronda been part of that bonus.

That was a political decision to make it seem, if even only a tiny bit, less of a one-sided best down than it was and screwed other people out of the bonus. And Holly already had one bonus and most certainly had a clause for if she won or got a huge discretionary bonus too. That pissed me off. That's huge money for some.

....I really hate when they come up with stats like this.

It was a fun fight to watch, JJ was sharp and accurate after the first round and did nothing but get stronger as the fight went on.

But significant strike record?

Val did a great job at distance until later in the fight causing JJ to miss alot in the first half, lots of missed leg kicks mixed in with the connections to....it really didnt look that lopsided of a fight until late.

This kind of stuff reminds me of a post fight "fight metric" stat where clearly a fighter maybe landed 12 good shots the whole round, but fight metric credits him with 67 significant head strikes.

....don't want to be a party pooper but...

Mir vs AA

Rashad Evans vs Dan Henderson

Lyoto Machida vs Phil Davis

Lyoto Machida vs Dan Henderson

Hell, you had a more boring stand-up on the same card with Struve vs Roshalt.

That fight was a good fight where the champ had a broken hand on too of it. Nowhere close to what should be rightfully considered boring stand-ups, even of bigger fights.

Significant strikes, as defined by fightmetric, are all distance strikes plus power clinch and ground strikes. So, that's why you think the numbers look bloated. Cause someone can land what looks like 50 weak jabs in a fight and get credited with 50 significant strikes

Am I the only one who thought it was strange that Latourneau fought in her Reebok tanktop? Didn't know that was even allowed.

I didn't think it was strange, but it clearly created an unfair disadvantage for JJ in the clinch. It was annoying listening to the ref tell her to not grab her clothes, which was nearly impossible. Going forward that top should not be allowed.

Those girls were beasts. That was a great fight. Gotta love Joanna Champion.

it was gutsy as hell. props to both ladies, no wonder they were both so emotional. i dont think letourneau has to improve all that much to be a big threat

sad thing was it deserved fight of the night over ronda/holm, but it was such a boring fight that i couldn't sit through the whole thing

She connected with 220 significant strikes making that the 2nd most ever landed in a single UFC fight and MOST ever in a championship fight.

JJ also connected 70 leg kicks, a new UFC record.

My take - what a beautifully vicious beast, this Joanna !

please keeps WMMA to WMMA please. you know why she was ble to set these records? because in MMA the opponent is probably KO/TKOed long before the record is set :icon_lol:

I thought she looked pretty flat and hesitant compared to what I have seen before. Some of it was her opponent of course, the stylistic match up,but I think some of it was her too.She wasn't throwing in bunches, which is an ok gameplan against another decent striker who can counter pretty well, but I think it got in her head not being able to go with her instinct and ultimately effected her game in a negative way. She's still amazing, but I think she's better than that.

Dude she broke her hand!

Joanna is gonna break everything that comes within her clinch, always, is this not obvious?

One of my favorite fight this year. That flush front kick she landed was amazing.

I was surprised at how well latourneau held up against Joanna's onslaught. She's very tough.

WSW has quickly become one of my favorite divisions.
