Jim Rome is known for his brash style and opinion. Goldberg was the play by play guy, he read the Corn Nuts advertisements and future events, he read the stats and talked about percentages and records. He was there to strictly relay information to the audience.
If Rome is in there to give opinions that's cool, but he's replacing a play by play guy. Unless they get Rogan to do the play by play and read the ads. I'm just trying to figure out what Jim Rome is going to be doing on air. Is he just there to give the random Conor McGregor comment and ask Joe questions because he has no idea what the fuck is going on? Is he going to have any idea what he is watching and commentating on?
Sure, he's an ESPN type casual fan, but is he a hardcore fan like Goldberg was? Does he have favorite fighters and favorite styles? Does he even know what Muay Thai is?
We all know Goldberg was a BJ nuthugger and knew the history of the sport. For someone who never trained, he had a pretty good awareness of what was going on. He's virtually been around as long as the sport has. If you're going to replace him with somebody who has equal knowledge and enthusiam for the sport, fine. But Jim Rome is completely the wrong person to replace Goldberg.
Mark my words, if he is in fact the one replacing Goldie, he will be gone within a year.
