There are many people hyping this bloody fight as "fight of the year", but I disagree.
It is true that Joe Lauzon has a great heart, tough dude for sure. However, what did he do in the fight other than eat punches and a few submission attempts? It was an one-sided pounding. Fight of the year has to be a two-sided war, like Poirier vs. Korean Zombie, or many others. I got frustrated watching Lauzon waking forward and doing nothing...

Of course it wasn't. Diaz / Daley was fight of the year.

Lauzon almost got the submission at the end. Miller said "holy shit" at the bell, meaning Lauzon almost snatched victory at the bell.

It was an awesome fucking fight. Potential FOTY.

In the press conference Miller stated that the choke was not tight.

That was an excellent fight. I can agree.

*Edit - Except that I just found out that it was in 2011 - Maybe it competes for fight of the decade

For me its between Lauzon/Varner and Poirier/KZ...Lauzon/Miller definitely in the Top 5 though.

You're right, my bad. I was thinking it was Jan/Feb of this year.

Lauzon vs Miller/Varner and Hominick/Yagin are my top 3

I don't remember KZ vs Diamiond being anymore competitive than this fight and instead remember it being LESS competitive.

It was great in the sense that Lauzon never gave up and showed a lot of heart. But yeah, it was a beat down of major proportions.

If Joe got the sub at the end it would be a FOTY candidate. Since he didnt', i'd say just a good fight. His fight vs Varner was better anyways.
