Jessamyn VS Raqeul- good, but overrated?

It was a great fight for the women's division, especially for a TUF fight. Sucked in to the haters who can't enjoy it.

There's always gonna be someone that complains... And that's coming from a borderline nihilist.

I agree. Check out the commercials and hype for a week straight for each of the three. Each womens fight had over the top retarded let down hype.

Shayna-Pena's meh fight. "One of the most shocking fights in TUF history!!!"

Roxie-Jessica debacle "The most emotional fight in TUF history!!!"

And now this one. A solid scrap for sure. Nothing more.

Thiago vs Massa on TUF Brazil was the most emotional TUF fight ever. My eyes got watery

It was an incredible fight got me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
This fight was the perfect tall/long vs tough powerful brawler scenario.
Both girls brought it and fought hard and with skill. Duke did very well considering all the hard shots she took. Some of her knees weren't perfect but she used them in defense to push Pennington away and it worked.

When she wasn't rocked she was much sharper. She displayed amazing heart and resilience. Pennington hit so hard and was very sharp in her counters.

However Pennington could have finished the fight but played it safe. Many times she didn't take advantages of openings. So in that sense she has things to learn.

But that was a crazy fight !

I never catch any commercials or previews beforehand, so I really didn't have any expectations either way. It was a legitimately good fight. One of the better TUF fights in recent memory. If this dissapointed you, I think you might have bought too much into some hype beforehand.

was thinking the exact same thing.

Its does my head in, mate. It's part of the reason I'm not watching this season. I get it, they have to get people to tune in - but we are not stupid. I'm not being talked down to or being labelled a fairweather/uneducated fight fan, because I wont agree that 'Fight A' was incredible or 'New UFC Division' is the most exciting on the roster.

I know what I'm watching, and it's an entertaining but average and sloppy TUF fight. Why isn't Dana taking 2 x guys off ANY season of TUF to watch fucking Mayweather? Considering we get 3-4 equally 'exciting' fights every season. Oh right, it's coz they're guys and not the 'flavour of the month' that Dana wants to promote.

I feel really sorry for the dudes who signed up for this season. The only reason they're there, is coz the casting crew knew that without them, there would be some FILTHY female records in that house for TUF 18. All we're hearing is 'the women's fights are shitting all over the men's fights' and similar - its a disgusting way to treat the lads on the show....and it's also, not true. From the recaps I've read, this fight aside, the other fights have all been on a fairly similar level in terms of quality.

Having sparred with local MMA pros (who do more often than not conform to the stereotype of having inferior hands than boxers*) - I will say yes. I am not saying they don't hit hard but one punch knockouts is very rare especially if the two opponents are close in skill level (regardless of power). The reason Pennington was able to survive as long as she did against Duke was not because Duke hit softly but because she was very good at parrying Duke's punches from the outside (i.e. punches never reached her face). Duke didn't get finished by Pennington because she managed to clinch (and knee) Pennington whenever Pennington attempted to finish. Nevertheless, both admitted in their blogs (especially Duke) they were on the point of becoming unconscious and you can hear nearly every one of Pennington's punches landing.

*simply because they also need to wrestle, learn bjj etc.

I understand that, but the guy I was quoting made it seem like males just don't stand in front of each other toe to toe because they don't have the balls or the courage to do that. That's simply a strategy, as a man, you can't really do unless you're Mark Hunt, and even then, like you said the wrestling wasn't a factor.

epic fight i dont care what anyone says - warriors both of them

I enjoyed the fight, had Jessamyn winning the first round, as I think most people had. One thing that did bug me however was her complete lack of head movement. She really needs to learn how to avoid getting hit in the face all the time.

In terms of sheer potential Jessamyn could be a force but it's not just her lack of head movement she has terrible punching. Her elbows flare on every shot, no wonder she can hardly crack an egg. Even worse than that is her teep. She threw a few but they were awful for a MT specialist. She had no hip pop in them at all. Pennington on the other hand who was supposed to be the boxing specialist threw some powerful teeps, one which floored Duke.

Jessamyn needs some serious work on her striking technique for her punching and kicks especially teeps. Her round kicks had quite a lot of knee chamber and didn't look very powerful. Her knees were the only thing that looked half decent offence wise. For someone with good physical gifts she really doesn't use them.

I thought it was a good fight. Had me on the edge of my seat but my take on it was that Jessamyn couldn't adjust well and Pennington is nothing more than an effective brawler.

Jessamyn's coaches should have told her that her kicks and clinching would have won her the fight and that she was losing the punching exchanges.

I don't see Pennington getting passed someone like Juliana or Jessica. She's a good puncher and if she can draw someone into that he's got chance but not sure about the rest of her game.
