You got to be brainwashed or greedy to want all profits of the people land and nation to go to the few and pollute

"It cannot be right, economically effective, or socially just that profits extracted from vital public services are used to line the pockets of shareholders when they could and should be reinvested in those services or used to reduce consumer bills. We know that those services will be better run when they are directly accountable to the public in the hands of the workforce responsible for their front line delivery and of the people who use and rely on them. It is those people not share price speculators who are the real experts.”

“Energy independence for some will mean rising bills and unreliable energy for the rest”

According to Corbyn, in many countries privatisations are being reversed, though he mentions no examples from the energy sector. “There are very good reasons for what’s taking place”, he notes. “The neoliberal ideology that drove the privatisation frenzy forgot a key lesson that’s understood even by conventional neoclassical economics; that where there are natural monopolies, markets fail.”

The architect of Thatcherite privatisation, Professor Stephen Littlechild thought regulators could mimic market competition but he was wrong. The regulators have proved too weak, [too] close to the companies they’re supposed to be regulating and too prone to corporate capture…

Corbyn says that “Without genuine competition or public accountability private ownership of key utilities has meant customers at the mercy of rip-off price fixing. The case for public ownership is so clear and so popular and we’ve demonstrated how it’s an investment with no net cost for the taxpayer.”

“… We’ve all seen how the big energy companies jack up prices too knowing full well most people don’t switch suppliers.”

Didn't Venezuela try to do something like that?

Norway has done it. Are they a failed nation? Tons of other countries. From china to russia to iran on and on.

UAE government owns its oil wealth.

All things like this should be nationalised, we should even have nationalised food production. The governments of major countries should be looking to provide any and all essentials to the populace. It seems savage and backwards that we would be not moving towards that.

Rail, Energy and Water industries were privatised right under our noses in this country and have all been an abysmal failure since, with ever rising prices and ever falling efficiency/service.

Energy companies have been robbing the UK public blind ever since with no government having the balls to curtail their fuckery. Stop the government subsidy for private companies running industries that would be better suited in the hands of the government, with the country seeing the profits generated, rather than private, multinational firms hiding it away in tax havens.

Utilities - public services in general - should not be privatized. The key point here - regulators cannot mimic market competition. This is as ludicrous a notion as any that expects humans not to be corruptible. Look at the US healthcare and politics - corporations can do literally whatever the fuck they want. I don't care so much about industries and services that aren't deemed public goods - shit that's optional is fine as is - but healthcare, energy etc. should never have had the chance to be privatized in the first place...

Regulators can't be trusted for shit. This is how things work at least here in the US (likely elsewhere):
1) industry goes rampant and shit hits the fan
2) regulators step in after the fact to "help prevent the next shit from hitting the fan"
3) two years later the country forgets shit ever hit the fan and corporations start lobbying for removal of regulations because when was the last time the shit hit the fan and oh we're much better now, never gonna happen again, oh and btw here's some $$$
4) shit hits the fucking fan again

We're gonna keep getting fucked, that's what's gonna happen

Yep by and large the public got the worst of both worlds with privatization , rising costs from companies they all to often end up having to sudsidize anyway .

Exactly, the biggest slap in the face to the public is that the government pay far more to private rail franchises and energy companies than those services ever received when they were publicly owned, whilst these companies in turn pay out record amounts to their shareholders.

It's all a big con played out on the British public, aided and abetted by shady politicians who have their fingers in many pies.

If the UK public weren't so apathetic and took the time to see how much they're being robbed, heads would roll.

Ah yes. Modeling aspects of our economy and government after China, Russia, and Iran

Not your best argument

Yep and yet ul still get people defend it and thatcher for doing it
These corporations just made tory donations or to her family buisness and that was the selection process (free market my ass) , bidding on billions worth of public property for sale for millions ! Its maybe the biggest robbery in uk history

I just came here to say Would. With Thatcher.

Some yes, some no.

Norway also has a population of less than 5.3 million people total.

Social experiments tend to be able to sustain themselves a bit longer in large areas with a low population.

Privatization is theft.

Not even an argument, just an irrational belief.

Economy of scale somehow works in favor of everything... except public interest.

I do not think all Western nations will privatize their energy sectors.

By 2030 it will happen. I think you guys are just sold extreme lies or worshipping corporations. I bet if Trump said he supported it half Trump fans would get on board with it.
UAE government owns its oil wealth.

I bet if Trump proposed nationalizing oil and gas and coal his fans would jump on board with it. The real reason they voted for him (and i dont blame them) isnt because he worships all that is capitalism nor do they. Hell he may want to take out his richer oligarch rivals because real estate wont be affected. And the left in America should to start talking about this idea you guys have already moved in support of healthcare. . I also love how people then shit talk Iran or russia etc. Yeah not best countries from liberal perspective but the goverbment does take care of its people. Or at least its people it considers full citizens. The saudis do this to etc. UAE the exceptions come if you are not considered a "real citizen" by them.
